Children sing for dear leader.

Child sings for Hussein.

Not much difference....

Norway justifies surrender

I still regard Europe as a prime indicator of what will happen here unless we see some drastic changes. You may find this instructive of the mind set in Europe.

Just speaking about immigrants becoming a majority in Europe is difficult since the terms often used are charged or unclear. But that record immigration and falling birthrate in Europe can make Muslims a majority is something we can speak about, thinks senior researcher at the University of Oslo Jon Rogstad.

"I don't think it's unthinkable that Muslims will be a majority," says Jon Rogstad. He's a sociologist and he has researched immigration since the 1990s. "But I don't want to say that this is the question, but rather how we can avoid conflicts between religions or groups of people who use religion to create conflicts."

Note the calm acceptance and the automatic that there are two groups, each of which wants trouble.

"Also Muslims have an interest in having an harmonic society with calm and predictability, but then there's a little group of Muslims and a little group of Christians or other groups who are want to make trouble.

Here we find that we have a "little group" of Muslims and a "little group of Christians" that want trouble. Really? well, the Muslim group is well known and their actions plain to see.. But who are these "Christians?" Have I missed something in the past years??

......

"There is extensive immigration to Europe today. It's higher than ever," says professor Grete Brochmann at the University of Oslo. She has published a series of books on immigration and agrees with some hesitation to call it a migration of nations.

"I think such terms can be used. It's not a given what it can be used for, since it's not true that there are hordes in motion but individuals who come."

I am unsure of why Professor Brochmann says that a "migration of nations" is happening but then backs off to use the word "individuals." Of course individuals are coming. It is just that they are coming in such numbers that they are "hordes."

In addition to Eurostat's data, immigrants come to the 31 other countries the UN defines as Europe and a small but meaningful number of illegal immigrant who have never been registered. AT the same time, ethnic Europeans give birth to so few children that the population will be halved in two generations."

"I don't think we will see Muslims become a majority," says Grete Brochmann.

Ethnic Europeans are having so few children that their population will be halved in two generations... 25 to 60 years for them but 36 to 40 for the immigrants.

But he saves the best for last.

Will it cause anything if Muslims will be a majority?"

"It depends on what consequences it will for for our society."

"I very much support a liberal social system and maintaining a welfare society. Muslims or not, I don't think it's important. If people who come agree with then it's fine and if not and they are in a majority then it's I who will lose."

Note the calm acceptance of losing a culture that has taken 2000 years of sacrifice and struggle and produced the greatest culture known to man to a group of people whose only qualification of running things is a demonstrated ability to out breed the West.

Norway birthed this man, Norway educated this man. If he is an example, Norway is doomed, along with Western Europe and the west. Why do I say this?? Because of what bin Ladin told Peter Arnett, then of CNN, in March 1997.

REPORTER: Mr. Bin Ladin, will the end of the United States' presence in Saudi Arabia, their withdrawal, will that end your call for jihad against the United States and against the US ?

BIN LADIN: So, the driving-away jihad against the US does not stop with its withdrawal from the Arabian peninsula, but rather it must desist from aggressive intervention against Muslims in the whole world.

Global Warming Nazis reveal themselves

People will have to be rationed to four modest portions of meat and one litre of milk a week if the world is to avoid run-away climate change, a major new report warns.

The report, by the Food Climate Research Network, based at the University of Surrey, also says total food consumption should be reduced, especially "low nutritional value" treats such as alcohol, sweets and chocolates.

......

Tara Garnett, the report's author, warned that campaigns encouraging people to change their habits voluntarily were doomed to fail and urged the government to use caps on greenhouse gas emissions and carbon pricing to ensure changes were made. "Food is important to us in a great many cultural and symbolic ways, and our food choices are affected by cost, time, habit and other influences," the report says. "Study upon study has shown that awareness-raising campaigns alone are unlikely to work, particularly when it comes to more difficult changes."

Link

Never mind that we know that Global Warming has become Global Cooling.

This has never been about climate change. It has always been about control by the bureaucrats of the far Left.

And remember who agreed with them. Hussein said:

We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times . . . and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK." Obama added: "That's not leadership. That's not going to happen."

To all the Democrats who think we are dumb

and will believe their BS that the failure of the bail out bill was the Repubs fault.......

Guess which finger I have extended upwards with the other four folded down.

First of all, to Barney Franks. Shut your mouth. You are one of the reasons we are here. You should, at the minimum, resign.

Secondly, to the MSM and the Leftie blogs.

The bill was crafted by the Democrats. The Democrats have a majority in Congress. The bill was supported by Bush, John McCain and Hussein. Yet the bill was defeated by 23 votes when 94 Democrats voted against it.

Well, duhhhhhhhh. Why was that???

The bill is unpopular. People are angry and don't understand they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. (Don't ask me how much I lost today, I don't want to think about it.) So Pelosi was caught telling Democrats in tough re-election campaigns they could vote against it.

Then she gave a highly partisan speech attacking the Repubs. How stupid. First she gives her troops permission to opt out and then attacks the Repubs rather than giving them any cover by stressing the need for bipartisanship.

That dear chums is just plain damn stupid.

The Democrats deserve whatever they eventually will get.

The country deserves better. A damn sight better.

Just the facts

Yeah, I used the pic last week but it is just so good...

that I couldn't resist. Click on this link.

Pelosi guides House Democrats in ushering in Depression

Pelosi is the worst House Majority Leader in history. It is hard to believe a politician needing support to pass a bill make such an arrogant, stupid and just plain wrong speech.

The shame is that CA will keep sending her back.

Link

With the banking system tottering and the financial markets crashing she manages to keep 124 Democrats from voting for a distasteful but necessary market bail out.

She was assisted by the worst Democratic candidate in history, Hussein of the "Call me if you need me" dynasty.

Well, chums... Where was he?? He couldn't persuade 10 of the 124 Demos who voted nay to vote yes? Couldn't he "reach across the aisle" and persuade 10 of the 96 Repubs that voted Nay to vote yes?

Obama's supporters in the press do it again

Did Palin agree with Hussein? Let's look at what she said:

Saturday night, while on a stop for cheesesteaks in South Philadelphia, Palin was questioned by a Temple graduate student about whether the U.S. should cross the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan.

"If that's what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should," Palin said.

During Friday night's presidential debate in Mississippi, Obama took a similar stance and condemned the Bush administration for failing to act on the possibility terrorists are in Pakistan
.

Link

Now, let's note that she didn't say attack Pakistan. Let's note that she didn't say we should do it without permission from Pakistan. Let's note that she didn't say we do it based on "intelligence." She made a simple overhead statement that the media has spun while leaving out Biden's gaffe of Roosevelt addressing the country in 1929 on TV.

Now. Let's see what Hussein said:

Obama said if elected in November 2008 he would be willing to attack inside Pakistan with or without approval from the Pakistani government, a move that would likely cause anxiety in the already troubled region.

"If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will," Obama said.

Link

Hussein opines that we act after Pakistan has refused to. He is specific. His actions are based on "high value" targets identified by "intelligence." And the attack should be anywhere in Pakistan.

Palin's comment clearly notes a defensive action where the terrorists are invading from Pakistan. It doesn't put Pakistan on notice. It doesn't threaten action. It merely notes what we "should" do.

In this life there are vast differences between "should" and "will." I think most of us know what they are.

Even the rabid supporters of Hussien....aka the MSM.

And they claim red staters are dumb..

DUI - TENNESSEE STYLE

Only a person in TENNESSEE could think of this.

From the county where drunk driving is considered a sport, comes this true
story. Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a bar in Paris,
Tennessee. After last call the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so
intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking
lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing.

After what seemed an eternity in which he tried his keys on five
different vehicles, the man managed to find his car and fall into it. He
sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and
drove off. Finally he started the car, switched the wipers on and off--it
was a fine, dry summer night--, flicked the blinkers on and off a couple
of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights.

He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then
remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patrons'
vehicles left. At last, when his was the only car left in the parking
lot, he pulled out and drove slowly down the road.

The police officer, having waited patiently all this time, now started up
his patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over
and administered a breathalyzer test. To his amazement, the
breathalyzer indicated no evidence that the man had consumed any alcohol
at all!

Dumbfounded, the officer said, "I'll have to ask you to accompany me to
the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken."

"I doubt it," said the truly proud Hillbilly. "Tonight I'm the designated decoy."

We may not be able to out smart Florida, Auburn or UCLA... but we can sure out fox Smokey..

Obama's Missouri helpers attack

If anyone ever needed to know why they should vote for McCain and against Hussein, the following says it all:

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

Again I note that I haven't seen any whisper of this on the MSM or any Leftie blog.

Why not?

Age by Walmart

A sad, but true story.

My thanks to Mike L.

Age By Wal-Mart

You are in the middle of some kind of project around the house
mowing the lawn, putting a new fence in, painting the living room,
or whatever. You are hot and sweaty, covered in dirt or paint. You
have your old work clothes on. You know the outfit - shorts with
the hole in crotch, old T-shirt with a stain from who knows what,
and an old pair of tennis shoes. Right in the middle of this great
home improvement project you realize you need to run to Wal-Mart to
get something to help complete the job.

Depending on your age you might do the following:

In your 20's:

Stop what you are doing. Shave, take a shower, blow dry your
hair,
brush your teeth, floss, and put on clean clothes. Check yourself
in the mirror and flex. Add a dab of your favorite cologne because
you never know, you just might meet some hot chick while standing in
the checkout lane. You went to school with the pretty girl running
the register.

In your 30's:

Stop what you are doing, put on clean shorts and shirt. Change
shoes. You married the hot chick so no need for much else. Wash
your hands and comb your hair. Check yourself in the mirror. Still
got it. Add a shot of your favorite cologne to cover the smell.
The cute girl running the register is the kid sister to someone you
went to school with.

In your 40's:

Stop what you are doing. Put a sweat shirt that is long enough
to
cover the hole in the crotch of your shorts. Put on different shoes
and a hat. Wash your hands. Your bottle of Brute Cologne is almost
empty so you don't want to waste any of it on a trip to Wal-Mart.
Check yourself in the mirror and do more sucking in than flexing.
The spicy young thing running the register is your daughter's age
and you feel weird thinking she is spicy.

In your 50's:

Stop what you are doing. Put a hat on, wipe the dirt off your
hands
onto your shirt. Change shoes because you don't want to get dirt in
your new sports car. Check yourself in the mirror and you swear not
to wear that shirt anymore because it makes you look fat. The cutie
running the register smiles when she sees you coming and you think
you still have it. Then you remember the hat you have on is from
Buddy's Bait & Beer Bar and it says, 'I Got Worms.'

In your 60's:

Stop what you are doing. No need for a hat anymore. Hose the
dog
shit off your shoes. The mirror was shattered when you were in your
50's. You hope you have underwear on so nothing hangs out the hole
in your pants. The girl running the register may be cute, but you
don't have your glasses on so you are not sure.

In your 70's:

Stop what you are doing. Wait to go to Wal-Mart until they have
your prescriptions ready, too. Don't even notice the dog shit on
your shoes. The young thing at the register smiles at you because
you remind her of her grandfather.

In your 80's:

Stop what you are doing. Start again. Then stop again. Now
you
remember you needed to go to Wal-Mart. Go to Wal-Mart and wander
around trying to think what it is you are looking for. Fart out
loud and you think someone called out your name. You went to school
with the old lady who greeted you at the front door.

Did Obama win?

Good morning dear Chums:

In case you have wondered what happened to Tall Cotton yesterday... We traveled to visit with some old friends and the motel we are at does not have high speed Internet access. So this is via AOL dial up and Firefox..which is slow.....very slow...almost "I aint gonna do this slow..."

So we drank beer and re-fought the cold war. Strangely enough the missions have become harder, the flights longer and the enemy even more devious and evil. I was surprised that he didn't remember my secret mission into Moscow to steal a new Soviet fighter, fly it out, deal with pursuing Soviet fighters, land on the ice, refuel from a US sub and then fly on to.....Gollywood. ;-)

(No, that didn't really happen.)

But even here they have cable and FNC so we drank more beer and watched the debate.

First, I never want to hear anyone say anything about me, or anyone, calling Hussein, Hussein. Throughout the debate Senator McCain addressed Hussein as "Senator Obama." Hussein called Senator McCain, John. It was obviously meant to show disrespect, or at best, "Look mommy! I am a big boy now!" Or, more likely, it was meant to anger McCain and have him show some temper.

Didn't work! Hey all you dumb Lefties advising Hussein, when you've endured torture for five and a half years having some empty suit of a politician call you by your first name isn't going to bother you.

Being a McCain supporter I think McCain won. FNC said 85% said McCain won. I am sure CNN and MSNBC and the MSM TV have other views, reflecting the demographics of their viewers... I think I saw CNN showing Hussein winning 58% to 39%... That's bad news for Hussein because it shows he didn't reach the audience which would be composed of Hussein minions and some "independents." i.e. Their audience had few McCain supporters. When you only win by 21% when you have an audience without almost any of McCain's base.

Later dear chums!

Cowboy poetry

Jake, the rancher, went one day to fix a distant fence.
The wind was cold and gusty and the clouds rolled gray and dense.
As he pounded the last staples in and gathered tools to go,
The temperature had fallen, the wind and snow began to blow.
When he finally reached his pickup, he felt a heavy heart.
From the sound of that ignition, he knew it wouldn't start.
So Jake did what most of us would do if we had been there.
He humbly bowed his balding head and sent aloft a prayer.

As he turned the key for the last time, he softly cursed his luck.
They found him three days later, frozen stiff in that old truck.
Now Jake had been around in life and done his share of roaming.
But when he saw Heaven, he was shocked -- it looked just like Wyoming !
Of all the saints in Heaven, his favorite was St. Peter.
(Now, this line ain't needed but it helps with rhyme and met er)
So they set and talked a minute or two, or maybe it was three.
Nobody was keeping' score -- in Heaven time is free.

"I've always heard," Jake said to Pete, "that God will answer prayer,
But one time I asked for help, well, He just plain wasn't there."
"Does God answer prayers of some, and ignore the prayers of others?
That don't seem exactly square -- I know all men are brothers."
"Or does He randomly reply, without good rhyme or reason?
Maybe, it's the time of day, the weather or the season."
"Now I ain't trying to act smart, it's just the way I feel.
And I was wondering', could you tell me -- what the heck's the deal?!"

Peter listened very patiently and when Jake was done,
There were smiles of recognition, and he said, "So, you're the one!!"
"That day your truck, it wouldn't start, and you sent your prayer a flying,
You gave us all a real bad time, with hundreds of us trying."
"A thousand angels rushed, to check the status of your file,
But you know, Jake, we hadn't heard from you in quite a long while."
"And though all prayers are answered, and God ain't got no quota,

He didn't recognize your voice, and started a truck in Minnesota ."

BETTER KEEP IN TOUCH
My thanks to Trish!

Ahmadinejad supports Hussein

Why am I not surprised?

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad weighed in on the US presidential election today, noting that only one of the candidates supports restoring diplomatic contact with Iran.

In response to a question from an American student about whether he supports Democratic nominee Barack Obama or Republican John McCain, Ahmadinejad did not explicitly name Obama but said: “The American government 28 years ago decided on its own to cut its ties with Iran . . .We do prefer to have relations, whereas one of the candidates in this election would prefer that.”

Where is Joe Biden??

A lady from Canada, Claudia, has asked the following question to the Dark Avenger.

Never understand why the media, and people like you, are always comparing Sarah to Obama. Where's Hussein's V.P. in your story? Disappeared into oblivion?

Well, after he chastised Hussein for one of the attack ads....

And opined that the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor...

And noted that in the stock market crash of 1929 President Roosevelt went on TV to reassure the country...

Well, he's in the picture.... You just have to find him!

Anybody besides me wonder why the press has ignored these??

Clinton - Democrats resisted tightening up on Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac

Just the facts, mam.

This was said by Bill Clinton. And it speaks for itself.

Two days later, former President Clinton agreed:

CHRIS CUOMO, ABC NEWS: A little surprising for you to hear the Democrats saying, "This came out of nowhere, this is all about the Republicans. We had nothing to do with this." Nancy Pelosi saying it. She signed the '99 Gramm Bill. She knew what was going on with the SEC. They're all sophisticated people. Is that playing politics in this situation?

BILL CLINTON: Well, maybe everybody does that a little bit. I think the responsibility the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Obama leaves race! Bump and Update

The Dark Avenger of "I complain a lot fame" claims that this is a racist post.

I re-read it and find nothing racist about it, but there was a sentence that really was beyond good taste.

So I have deleted it. Its removal doesn't change the thrust or the humor.

So there you go DA. I hope this makes you feel better... I surely wouldn't want to hurt a reader's feelings!

BTW - I am sure you have no problems with the next to last paragraph in which McCain is painted as being dumber than dirt... Do you?

And how many race cards do you have left to play?
.........................................................................
This is seriously funny.

Caution. Adult language.

In the wake of an epic financial meltdown that threatens to derail the U.S. economy for years, Barack Obama announced he was ending his run for President of the United States, declaring to a stunned nation, “Man, this is bullshit.”

In a boisterous and hastily-called press conference, Obama detailed his reasons for the decision. “I was prepared to fight global warming, reform the health care system, repair our crumbling roads, create a 21st century electric grid, find Bin Laden, end the war in Iraq, and bring peace to Israel and the Palestinians. But now you tell me I have to clean up the worst financial mess since the Great Depression too? One that’s going to plunge our economy into a recession for most of my administration while I take the blame? Fuck that. That’s fucking ridiculous. You guys clean up your own shit. I’m outta here.”

He elaborated: “From the time I was a little boy, I dreamt of being President one day. Of having the power and resources to enact a bold vision for the country, to set this great land on a path to a better future. Now we’re fucking broke. What the hell can I do when we’re $9 trillion in debt and got 1 billion Chinese hankering to cash their IOUs? I can’t even buy a three-fingered handjob now.”

Obama also revealed that he previously thought about quitting when Sen. McCain picked Gov. Palin as a running mate (”What is this, a reality TV show?”), when the media covered the faux lipstick-on-a-pig scandal for two days straight (”Why would I call her a pig? She’s a fucking MILF, for Christ’s sake”), and when he realized he was still neck and neck with McCain in the polls in spite of being his opponent’s superior in every possible metric and running as the exact opposite of one of the worst administrations in U.S. history.

Obama took no questions from reporters. After reading his statement, he threw his suit jacket on the ground, made an obscene gesture to the press corp, and dashed out a back exit............and rode away.

The new de facto leader of the Presidential race, Sen. John McCain, was unaware of the development until told about it by a reporter. When asked how he felt about Obama quitting, McCain replied: “Senator Obama would like to fool the American people that he is the quitter in this race. He’s not. I already quit in 2005, well before Obama even thought of quitting. That’s quitting you can believe in.”

It is unknown at this time where Sen. Biden will replace Obama at the top of the ticket, but it is unlikely as the Obama campaign announced plans to return all unspent money to its supporters along with a 20% off coupon to flights to Canada.

Deconstructing William Ayers and Obama

This pretty well says it all when the Ayers and Hussein connection comes up.

Last April, Obama dismissed the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers as just "a guy who lives in my neighborhood," and "not somebody who I exchange ideas with on a regular basis." But in fact, Ayers and Obama were partners in the Chicago Annenburg Challenge (CAC), an organization whose mandate was the reformation of Chicago's public schools.

Obama was CAC's first board chairman, serving in that capacity for four years and remaining on the board for two more. Ayers was the founder of CAC and, according to Kurtz, its guiding spirit. Moreover, the archive documents Kurtz reviewed show that Ayers was part of a working group of five that assembled the initial board. Ayers then sat as an ex-officio member of the board Obama chaired through CAC's first year. He also served on the board's governance committee with Obama. The two worked together to craft CAC bylaws.

These findings demolish the Obama campaign claim that Ayers had nothing to do with Obama's "recruitment" to the board.

Dark Avenger and the global warming hoax

The Dark Avenger has popped in wanting to argue global warming, evidently inspired by my anecdotal post regarding Durbin's snow and lowest temperature ever recorded.

Here's what Great Britains' Meterological Office had to say about this:

Anyone who thinks global warming has stopped has their head in the sand. The evidence is clear – the long-term trend in global temperatures is rising, and humans are largely responsible for this rise. Global warming does not mean that each year will be warmer than the last, natural phenomena will mean that some years will be much warmer and others cooler. You only need to look at 1998 to see a record-breaking warm year caused by a very strong El Niño. In the last couple of years, the underlying warming is partially masked caused by a strong La Niña. Despite this, 11 of the last 13 years are the warmest ever recorded.

Average global temperatures are now some 0.75 °C warmer than they were 100 years ago. Since the mid-1970s, the increase in temperature has averaged more than 0.15 °C per decade. This rate of change is very unusual in the context of past changes and much more rapid than the warming at the end of the last ice age. Sea-surface temperatures have warmed slightly less than the global average whilst temperatures over land have warmed at a faster rate of almost 0.3 °C per decade.

Over the last ten years, global temperatures have warmed more slowly than the long-term trend. But this does not mean that global warming has slowed down or even stopped. It is entirely consistent with our understanding of natural fluctuations of the climate within a trend of continued long-term warming.

These natural fluctuations include the El Niño Southern Oscillations (ENSO) in the Pacific Ocean. In El Niño years - those when cold surface water is not apparent in the tropical eastern Pacific - global temperature is considerably warmer than normal. A particularly strong El Niño occurred in 1998 resulting in the warmest year on record across the globe. In La Niña years - when cold water rises to the surface of the Pacific Ocean - temperatures can be considerably colder than normal. Volcanic eruptions can also cause temporary drops in global temperatures because of huge amounts of dust thrown high into the atmosphere that reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches the surface. A La Nina was present throughout 2007 and much of 2008; — despite this temporary cooling, 2008 is still likely to be the seventh warmest on the global record.

Got this from the NOAA website:

NOAA: U.S. Has 39th Warmest August, 22nd Warmest Summer on Record

Global Summer Temperature Was Ninth Warmest, Tenth Warmest August Since Records Began

This June—August 2008 summer season was the 22nd warmest on record for the contiguous United States, according to an analysis by NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. Also, last month ended as the 39th warmest August for the contiguous United States, based on records dating back to 1895.

The average summer temperature, for the contiguous United States, of 72.7 degrees F is 0.8 degree F above the 20th century average, based on preliminary data. The average August temperature was 73.2 degrees F, which is 0.4 degree above average.

The combined global average land and ocean surface temperature for summer 2008 was the ninth warmest since records began in 1880, and this August was the tenth warmest.

U.S. Temperature Highlights

California had its ninth warmest summer, while New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island had their 8th warmest summers.

The western United States experienced its fourth warmest August on record, with an average temperature of 75.3 degrees F, 2.9 degrees above the 20th century mean.

While temperatures in most western states were above normal in August, temperatures across much of the eastern half of the U.S. were below normal.

Cooler temperatures in the east and warmer temperatures in the western U.S. contributed to a near average national residential energy consumption for August and the summer season. Based on NOAA's Residential Energy Demand Temperature Index, temperature-related energy demand was just 3.5 percent below average in August, and 4.2 percent above average for the summer.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, this was written in 2002.

“The Earth's polar regions long have been considered canaries in the coal mine on climate change - the first places to look, many scientists said, to learn whether the planet's temperature is, in fact, rising. Indeed, climate models generally predict that the heating of the atmosphere - precipitated by global warming - will cause the vast layer of ice that covers Antarctica to melt, raising sea levels and changing regional climate patterns by altering ocean currents.
This week, that widely held presumption is being challenged.”

CSM

We now have this.

Each possible cause of global warming has a different pattern of where in the planet the warming occurs first and the most. The signature of an increased greenhouse effect is a hot spot about 10km up in the atmosphere over the tropics. We have been measuring the atmosphere for decades using radiosondes:

weather balloons with thermometers that radio back the temperature as the balloon ascends through the atmosphere. They show no hot spot. Whatsoever.

If there is no hot spot then an increased greenhouse effect is not the cause of global warming. So we know for sure that carbon emissions are not a significant cause of the global warming. If we had found the greenhouse signature then I would be an alarmist again.

Recently the alarmists have suggested we ignore the radiosonde thermometers, but instead take the radiosonde wind measurements, apply a theory about wind shear, and run the results through their computers to estimate the temperatures. They then say that the results show that we cannot rule out the presence of a hot spot. If you believe that you'd believe anything.

The satellites that measure the world's temperature all say that the warming trend ended in 2001, and that the temperature has dropped about 0.6C in the past year (to the temperature of 1980). Land-based temperature readings are corrupted by the "urban heat island" effect: urban areas encroaching on thermometer stations warm the micro-climate around the thermometer, due to vegetation changes, concrete, cars, houses. Satellite data is the only temperature data we can trust, but it only goes back to 1979. NASA reports only land-based data, and reports a modest warming trend and recent cooling. The other three global temperature records use a mix of satellite and land measurements, or satellite only, and they all show no warming since 2001 and a recent cooling.

4. The new ice cores show that in the past six global warmings over the past half a million years, the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon. Which says something important about which was cause and which was effect.

None of these points are controversial. The alarmist scientists agree with them, though they would dispute their relevance.

The last point was known and past dispute by 2003, yet Al Gore made his movie in 2005and presented the ice cores as the sole reason for believing that carbon emissions cause global warming. In any other political context our cynical and experienced press corps would surely have called this dishonest and widely questioned the politician's assertion.

Until now the global warming debate has merely been an academic matter of little interest. Now that it matters, we should debate the causes of global warming.
So far that debate has just consisted of a simple sleight of hand: show evidence of global warming, and while the audience is stunned at the implications, simply assert that it is due to carbon emissions.

In the minds of the audience, the evidence that global warming has occurred becomes conflated with the alleged cause, and the audience hasn't noticed that the cause was merely asserted, not proved.

If there really was any evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming, don't you think we would have heard all about it ad nauseam by now?

The world has spent $50 billion on global warming since 1990, and we have not found any actual evidence that carbon emissions cause global warming. Evidence consists of observations made by someone at some time that supports the idea that carbon emissions cause global warming. Computer models and theoretical calculations are not evidence, they are just theory.

Well, if it was warming and is now cooling, what is the cause? The sun. You know, that big old orange thing up in the sky. (Yes you readers in Seattle, it does exist.)

There is also another factor. It's called water vapor.

The following was sent by a reader named Jonas. Perhaps he will join in with some additional information.

1. Storage heaters are a better analogy than 'greenhouse' to describe such gases (Heat-Absorption-Retention-Emission) thus 'HARE' is more apposite term.

2. Only 'molecular gases' such as CO2, CH4, H2O (water vapour)have HARE capability (non-molecular ones such as oxygen and nitrogen reflect heat).

3. HARE gases only absorb heat in/from the infrared wavelength. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT AND SALIENT POINT.

4 Infrared heat/energy in the atmosphere comes from the Sun; the sum total of the energy emitted from the Earth's surface is miniscule compared to that beamed down by Sun; heat from the surface of the Earth will keep on rising until it is expended (oscillated away); the only contribution surface heat can make to the levels of HARE gases is if there is if there are any such gases given off by/in that heat.

5. HARE gases absorb [infrared] energy at differing efficiencies:carbon dioxide has a 8.5 per cent efficiency whereas water vapour's is 37.5 per cent (more than four times that of CO2).

6. Carbon dioxide presently exists in the atmosphere at a concentration of 387ppm; water vapour's is some 20,000ppm, more 50 times that of CO2.

7. The Greenhouse/HARE contribution of CO2 amount to less that half of one per cent of that of water vapour's; expressed as a 12" ruler, CO2 is about 1/16th of an inch whereas water vapour is 11 7/8".

8. Thus it won't make any noticeable difference to temperature of the atmosphere if the level of CO2 was halved, doubled or even trebled.

Confirmation of CO2's irrelevance in determining global temperatures is borne out by the fact than since 1998 - during which time the level of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen by some 18ppm - temperatures have not only declined by 1 degree C but that since 2006 the rate of this cooling has been accelerating.

In the meantime we are enjoyin the coolness of an early fall. I find that delightful since my utility bill has been jacked by TVA to fight something, global warming, that does not exist.

Palin and education

Since Palin has more experience than Biden and Hussein the attacks have shifted from "experience" to "education." Even though she has a college degree it isn't from Harvard, or Princeton or any so-called "elite" school. Of course it is the graduates of the "elite" schools, both Repubs and Demos that have led us to this point.

Am I the only one who says that mayabe a military school grad and a Boise State grad just might do better? Could they do worse? I don't see how.

Victor Davis Hanson says it like this.

"What is wisdom?

Not necessarily degrees, glibness, poise, or factual recall, but the ability to understand human nature. And that requires two simple things: an inductive method of reasoning to look at the world empirically, and a body of knowledge and experience to draw on for guidance.

Palin in empirical fashion bucked the Republican establishment and the old-boy network when she thought it was unreasonable; Obama never figured out or at least never questioned Tony Rezko or the Chicago machine, Trinity Church or the Pelosi-Kennedy liberal mantra--unless it proved advantageous."

Global Warming strikes again

Parts of KwaZulu-Natal were transformed into a "winter wonderland" after snowfalls blanketed several areas of the province.

Temperatures plummeted into the low teens, with residents of Kokstad and Giants Castle waking up to 0C.

Durban experienced its coldest September night in recorded history on Friday night.

hahahahaha

Where's Pope Algore when we need him?

Palin's speech

The following is the speech that Palin would have given at the anti-Iran rally had not the Hussein campaign scared off the sponsors by threatening them with the IRS.

I am honored to be with you and with leaders from across this great country — leaders from different faiths and political parties united in a single voice of outrage.

Tomorrow, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come to New York — to the heart of what he calls the Great Satan — and speak freely in this, a country whose demise he has called for.

Ahmadinejad may choose his words carefully, but underneath all of the rhetoric is an agenda that threatens all who seek a safer and freer world. We gather here today to highlight the Iranian dictator's intentions and to call for action to thwart him.

He must be stopped.

The world must awake to the threat this man poses to all of us. Ahmadinejad denies that the Holocaust ever took place. He dreams of being an agent in a "Final Solution" — the elimination of the Jewish people. He has called Israel a "stinking corpse" that is "on its way to annihilation." Such talk cannot be dismissed as the ravings of a madman — not when Iran just this summer tested long-range Shahab-3 missiles capable of striking Tel Aviv, not when the Iranian nuclear program is nearing completion, and not when Iran sponsors terrorists that threaten and kill innocent people around the world.

The Iranian government wants nuclear weapons. The International Atomic Energy Agency reports that Iran is running at least 3,800 centrifuges and that its uranium enrichment capacity is rapidly improving. According to news reports, U.S. intelligence agencies believe the Iranians may have enough nuclear material to produce a bomb within a year.

The world has condemned these activities. The United Nations Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend its illegal nuclear enrichment activities. It has levied three rounds of sanctions. How has Ahmadinejad responded? With the declaration that the "Iranian nation would not retreat one iota" from its nuclear program.

So, what should we do about this growing threat? First, we must succeed in Iraq. If we fail there, it will jeopardize the democracy the Iraqis have worked so hard to build, and empower the extremists in neighboring Iran. Iran has armed and trained terrorists who have killed our soldiers in Iraq, and it is Iran that would benefit from an American defeat in Iraq.

If we retreat without leaving a stable Iraq, Iran's nuclear ambitions will be bolstered. If Iran acquires nuclear weapons — they could share them tomorrow with the terrorists they finance, arm, and train today. Iranian nuclear weapons would set off a dangerous regional nuclear arms race that would make all of us less safe.

But Iran is not only a regional threat; it threatens the entire world. It is the no. 1 state sponsor of terrorism. It sponsors the world's most vicious terrorist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah. Together, Iran and its terrorists are responsible for the deaths of Americans in Lebanon in the 1980s, in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and in Iraq today. They have murdered Iraqis, Lebanese, Palestinians, and other Muslims who have resisted Iran's desire to dominate the region. They have persecuted countless people simply because they are Jewish.

Iran is responsible for attacks not only on Israelis, but on Jews living as far away as Argentina. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial are part of Iran's official ideology and murder is part of its official policy. Not even Iranian citizens are safe from their government's threat to those who want to live, work, and worship in peace. Politically-motivated abductions, torture, death by stoning, flogging, and amputations are just some of its state-sanctioned punishments.

It is said that the measure of a country is the treatment of its most vulnerable citizens. By that standard, the Iranian government is both oppressive and barbaric. Under Ahmadinejad's rule, Iranian women are some of the most vulnerable citizens.

If an Iranian woman shows too much hair in public, she risks being beaten or killed.

If she walks down a public street in clothing that violates the state dress code, she could be arrested.

But in the face of this harsh regime, the Iranian women have shown courage. Despite threats to their lives and their families, Iranian women have sought better treatment through the "One Million Signatures Campaign Demanding Changes to Discriminatory Laws." The authorities have reacted with predictable barbarism. Last year, women's rights activist Delaram Ali was sentenced to 20 lashes and 10 months in prison for committing the crime of "propaganda against the system." After international protests, the judiciary reduced her sentence to "only" 10 lashes and 36 months in prison and then temporarily suspended her sentence. She still faces the threat of imprisonment.

Earlier this year, Senator Clinton said that "Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is in the forefront of that" effort. Senator Clinton argued that part of our response must include stronger sanctions, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. John McCain and I could not agree more.

Senator Clinton understands the nature of this threat and what we must do to confront it. This is an issue that should unite all Americans. Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons. Period. And in a single voice, we must be loud enough for the whole world to hear: Stop Iran!

Only by working together, across national, religious, and political differences, can we alter this regime's dangerous behavior. Iran has many vulnerabilities, including a regime weakened by sanctions and a population eager to embrace opportunities with the West. We must increase economic pressure to change Iran's behavior.

Tomorrow, Ahmadinejad will come to New York. On our soil, he will exercise the right of freedom of speech — a right he denies his own people. He will share his hateful agenda with the world. Our task is to focus the world on what can be done to stop him.

We must rally the world to press for truly tough sanctions at the U.N. or with our allies if Iran's allies continue to block action in the U.N. We must start with restrictions on Iran's refined petroleum imports.

We must reduce our dependency on foreign oil to weaken Iran's economic influence.

We must target the regime's assets abroad; bank accounts, investments, and trading partners.

President Ahmadinejad should be held accountable for inciting genocide, a crime under international law.

We must sanction Iran's Central Bank and the Revolutionary Guard Corps — which no one should doubt is a terrorist organization.

Together, we can stop Iran's nuclear program.

Senator McCain has made a solemn commitment that I strongly endorse: Never again will we risk another Holocaust. And this is not a wish, a request, or a plea to Israel's enemies. This is a promise that the United States and Israel will honor, against any enemy who cares to test us. It is John McCain's promise and it is my promise.

There was a time when both parties would have had no problems with any of that.
Sadly, that time has gone.

Harrogate tries and fails again

Harrogate returns. This time he starts to reveal his inner self. They all do sooner or later.

What is most immoral about people like you is the unwillingness to own your choices.

What is your basis for writing that? I have been up front on my positions.

You speak of "when war comes." It's so sad, the thought that you believe what you are writing.

McCain is vowing to bring war against Iran. You might agree with McCain's wishes but then you don't get to support his candidacy and then turn around and speak of "when war comes" as though your vote had nothing to do with it. Not unless you like lying.

Are you daft? “When war comes” is a perfectly straight forward phrase indicating that I think that it will come. Otherwise I would have written “If war comes.” Was that too complex for you or did you just need something to attack?

Again I note that history shows that war can be prevented by being prepared for war. Even fighting “smaller” wars can prevent larger wars. See the Cold War and the various proxy wars.

Waiting for Iran to complete development of nuclear weapons is the height of folly and if we do hundreds of thousands of dead Jews and Americans will curse the memory of people who babble such nonsense as you write, just as do the dead of the Holocaust and the others who died in WWII curse the French and English who waited too late to take action.

BTW – I note you throw in the word “lying.” That’s a personal attack and if you do it again I will delete your comment.

Hopefully Americans have learned from the last eight years of Bush that the GOP needs War to be legitimate. Otherwise it's stuck with stuff like the Terri Shiavo spectacle. Really.

Probably, though, Americans haven't learned it. Sadly, we shall probably see just how many dead people a McCain victory will spell.

What an incoherent conclusion. Surely someone who calls themselves an academian can do better.

harrogate fails his chance

It will be interesting to see the apocalyptic justifications of people like you, when the GOP drags the country into war with Iran and Russia, too.

If we go to war with either country it will be because of their actions. Perhaps you have been in a cave for the past ten years and have heard nothing Iran has said. Putin is hell bent on regaining all of the territory the Soviets lost when he was a KGB man.

Lines have been long drawn in the sand (heh) on Iraq. You talk a lot about how wise Bush was. Probably most Americans don't see it that way anymore. Maybe war as a last resort. Maybe a President who would rather, if he had his druthers, not be at war. Seems attractive to most voters this time. But the milk is spilt, we are there, and our embassy and bases there are gaudy, enormous, and not going anywhere ever.

I never said Bush was wise. Read my post again. I noted that his actions were reasonable based on the information he had. I would hope any President would always fall in the direction of "protect the country first." Plenty of mistakes were made after the invasion started, some by the Military, some by State.

Perhaps the worst error in judgement was thinking that we could just bounce in and then bounce out. That didn't work in Vietnam and despite Rumsfeld's "new strategy" claim it was 35 years old.

As for new bouncing baby wars there is all sorts of opportunity for new Strains of Rah-Rah kill em all rhetoric. Certainly you will do your part.

When war comes I will be supporting the troops. If you consider this "rah rah" then I believe you were educated as described in my earlier post.

"I live a few miles from Santa Monica High School, in California. There, young men and women are taught that America is “a terrorist nation,” “one of the worst regimes in history,” that it’s twice-elected leader is “the son of the devil,” and dictator of this “fascist” country. Further, “patriotism” is taught by dragging an American flag across the classroom floor, because the nation’s truest patriots, as we should know by now, are those who are most able to despise it.

This is only high school, remember: in college things get much, much worse."

Still. Give McCain credit. McCain has lied his arse off this campaign, but one thing he has done a pretty good job of being honest about, is in communicating eagerness to go to war with Iran and ("we're all Georgians today") Russia. And he vows to keep us a permanent presence in Iraq, 100 years no big deal.

I not a rabid supporter of McCain but I will vote for him and he is right on Iran. It is better to kill a snake when it is young. You should study some history of the run up to WWII and understand that it could have been easily stopped by France and England showing resolve. Indeed, when Hitler sent his troops to occupy the Rhineland his Generals were instructed to withdraw at the first sign of resistance by France.

But, sigh. Many who vote McCain won't be doing it because they want any part of these wars. Or because they hold the lives of their loved ones so cheaply that they would sign off on, say, their only son being KIA in Georgia. Nor will they be voting for him to reward the GOP for its record on the economy, after eight years in the White House and only recently removed from 6 years of controlling the entire Federal Government. Which has worked out so well.

The above paragraph makes little sense. As for the economy, I note that the price of gasoline was $2.25 when the Democrats took control of the economy. Seventeen short months later it was $4.00. Why? Because OPEC and the speculators knew that if they ran the price up while the Repubs were in charge action for drilling in the US would be forth coming. With the Demos in charge they had an open check book.

Yet even after all the pain and the collapsed economy because of oil prices Nancy Pelosi would not introduce a bill... and even now has shepherded a useless piece of legislation through Congress.

BTW - You do understand, don't you, that Pelosi purchased stock in one of Picken's companies CNLE that is pushing alternative energy sources. Thus high gasoline prices makes her money. That is called "conflict of interst" and a Special Prosecutor" is clearly needed.

While there is a lot that will help McCain, so much so that it looks like he will win. None of his electoral advantages appear related to issues. Hmmmmm.

And so the people of this country will have a hard time pleading "we didn't know" if this time next year McCain is doing what he's said he will do. Fortunately they will have the likes of you to remind them of their duties to accept it all.

The duties of a citizen of this constitutional republic is to study the issues and vote for the person they believe will do the right thing. After that there is a thin line between protesting in such a manner that does not send the wrong message to our enemies and demonstrating to them that if they just hang on, if they just kill a few more Americans they can, as they did in Vietnam, win a political victory.

The worst thing that came out of Vietnam was the empowerment of the Left and the establishment of a cadre of America haters in our universities and high schools. If we lose in Iraq the worst thing that will come out of it will be the belief by the radical Muslims that they can do what they please.

You should remember what bin Ladin told Peter Arnett on 3/97.

REPORTER: Mr. Bin Ladin, will the end of the United States' presence in Saudi Arabia, their withdrawal, will that end your call for jihad against the United States and against the US ?

BIN LADIN:... So, the driving-away jihad against the US does not stop with its withdrawal from the Arabian peninsula, but rather it must desist from aggressive intervention against Muslims in the whole world.

harrogate's education

Someone calling themselves "harrogate" made the following comment in response to my post, "Why Democrats would not allow a vote on honoring our troops."

Starting the war with Iraq, by contrast, didn't "cause Americans to be killed."

Starting wars with Russia and with Iran, by contrast, won't "cause Americans to be killed."

Stay alert, and stay with Fox.

His comment so vividly demonstrates what's wrong with the Left today that I thought I would feature it in a post for everyone to see.

Of course the Left claims that there were no WMD's and that Bush lied. Leaving such juvenile claims aside, we know that all of the world's intelligence agencies thought Saddam's Iraq had WMD's, and indeed even Clinton's DOJ indicted him and Joe Wilson told the CIA in 2/02 that Iraq had met with officals in Niger and had tried to purchase yellowcake. And even Fitzgerald told the 9/11 Commission that Iraq and al Qaida had agreed to work together on a "enemy of my enemy is my friend" basis.

So the question then became, should Bush ignore all of this or should he push Saddam?
He pushed Saddam and Saddam was less than forthcoming, even when it was evident that the US would invade. Why? Read what Bush said in his 2003 State of the Union speech.

Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option.

So based on what he knew and believed, Bush invaded.

And once the invasion was started we could not afford to lose. If we had withdrawn after destroying Iraq's infrastructure and political class Iran would have seized the country and it would have been in a political position to control, even more so than now, the flow of oil to Europe and sponsor terrorist attacks against the US with no fear of retaliation from Europe.

War is a terrible thing, dear harrogate. But the only thing worse than war is losing a war.

So the ideal is to win And to win as quickly as possible with as few loss of American lives as possible. Yes. American lives.

Now let's revisit the post:

On February 9th, 1933, the ruling elite of the world’s great Civilization held a debate in the Oxford Union. With thunderclouds growing dark across the English Channel, at a time when resolute action could still have averted the worst catastrophe the world has ever known, these elites resolved that “This House will in no circumstances fight for its King and Country.”

The Resolution passed by a vote of 275 to 153. Needless to say, this vote did not avert the fight. It guaranteed it.

When you tell your enemy you won't fight you leave the time and place of the attack up to the enemy. By our careless actions since December of 1979 and the creation of the modern Islamic radical movement by Carter's failure to act until 9/11/2001 we told them that we were weak, could be bullied and would not fight back.

Well, 9/ll proved them wrong but the hard core Left, raised on the hate America radicalism of the 60's almost immediately started attacking the country. As the war started demonstrators in Oakland tried to block the loading of ammunition on ships. Idiots went to Baghdad as "human shields" to save and protect our enemies.

And al-Qaida and the other terrorists watched and remembered Vietnam.

As the General of North Vietnam, Bui Tin, who received the surrender of South Vietnam said:

Q: Was the American antiwar movement important to Hanoi's victory?

A: It was essential to our strategy. Support of the war from our rear was completely secure while the American rear was vulnerable. Every day our leadership would listen to world news over the radio at 9 a.m. to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement. Visits to Hanoi by people like Jane Fonda, and former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and ministers gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses. We were elated when Jane Fonda, wearing a red Vietnamese dress, said at a press conference that she was ashamed of American actions in the war and that she would struggle along with us.

And that has continued in this battle of WWIV and the Left's actions have caused the war to be longer because it has improved the morale of the enemy and has given them cause to believe if they can wait a bit longer Hussein and the Democrats will give them a political victory.

Now you know, harrogate. You can't plead ignorance again.

Why the Democrats would not allow a vote on honoring the troops

I live a few miles from Santa Monica High School, in California.

I hope the above whets your appetite and you go to the National Review article. It is worth reading if for no other reason than it explains to the uber Lefties why their actions give aid and comfort to our enemies and cause Americans to be killed.

Democrats use IRS to shut down free speech

Hot on the heels of trying to shut down radio stations that dared broadcast infomaation concerning the relationship between Hussein and the self-identified terroist William Ayers, we have this:

News has emerged that the organizers of that anti-Iran rally that famously got snarled up in Senator Hillary Clinton's ire at Governor Sarah Palin last week were threatened by New York Democrats with IRS action against their tax-exempt status if they allowed Palin to speak. CBS local NY news reported this little fact and so did NBC but most of the national news has ignored this outrageous threat to use the IRS to silence Governor Palin.

Accusing New York Democrats of using "McCarthyism" to shut Palin down, Democrat Assemblyman Dov Hikind was flabbergasted by the behind the scenes threats against the rally organizers. "It's an absolute shame that this has happened," CBS quoted Hikind as saying. "To threaten organizations … to threaten the Conference of Presidents that if you don't withdraw the invitation to Gov. Palin we're going to look into your tax exempt status … that's McCarthyism."

The charge was that inviting only Palin and not also Democrat VP candidate Joe Biden is somehow a violation of "equal representation of candidates" (As NBC claimed in its report). But, this is not a certainty. After all, the appearance wasn't a campaign stop nor was it a venue to advertise Palin or engage in presidential politics. Besides, as HotAir notes, of the political speakers that were invited to speak last year, few were Republicans.

The real story here, though, is that Democrats immediately leapt to using the IRS as a weapon against the rally organizers. Along with the attacks on talk radio host Milt Rosenberg (here and here) it is becoming clear that Democrats are not interested in free speech, but will turn to threats and attacks to get their way to silence dissenting views or opposing party representatives.

It should be remembered that this rally was a pro-Israel rally meant to highlight the oppression and evil of Iran and its president Ahmadinejad. This was NOT a forum for American politics, but a show of support for Israel. Additionally, how is it this organization's fault that Hillary canceled her appearance? After all, the rally folks did invite Hillary and Palin. It isn't their fault that Hillary didn't have the guts to show!

It would seem to me that the news of a political party trying to use the IRS to shut down their opponents would be somewhat newsworthy? Yet, we haven't heard this story on the national scene at all. Would we have heard about it if it were Republicans trying to use threats of the IRS in such a manner?

That is outrageous. What is more outrageous is that the press is ignoring it.

Why do Hussein supporters hate free speech? Why did the Hussein camp want to stop support of demonstartions against a Muslim country??

Larry Johnson tells all

Larry Johnson is not a fan of Bush or McCain, so when he steps forward with a story, you can believe it.

Barack Obama has a major Wall Street and Washington problem that the media so far is refusing to acknowledge or explore. He is in the pocket of the Wall Street firms and mortgage security companies that are at the center of the collapse of the real estate bubble. He is closely tied to at least two of the Fannie Mae principals. As Ricky Ricardo would say, “Barack, you got some splaining to do.”

Let’s start with the numbers. Why is a first term Senator pulling down almost $300,000 a year from Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, AIG, Countrywide Financial, and Washington Mutual? He has not even completed his fourth year in the Senate and received a total of $1,093,329.00 from these eight companies and their employees. (all data from OpenSecrets.org). John McCain’s numbers, according to OpenSecrets.org for the period 1990-2008 (i.e., 18 years worth of data) only collected $549,584.00. In other words, Barack is receiving $273,582.25 (and 2008 is not over) per year while McCain raised a paltry $30,532.44.

Want another shocker? Barack Obama has received more from one source–Goldman Sachs $542,252.00–than McCain has from all of the companies combined. Who the hell is more beholden to lobbyists? And why does a junior Senator from Illinois rate this kind of dough?

Why are these firms and their employees showering Barack with their cash? Although the conventional wisdom wants to pin the Wall Street debacle on Republican greed, the reality is that the real estate market and the big players on Wall Street have been a Democratic game. McCain’s hands are clean when it comes to this mess. That is not spin, that is a fact. He proposed legislation back in 2006 to start addressing the abuses of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but the Democrats would have none of it.

Why? Here’s the explanation.

To understand you must first appreciate that the largest debt market in the United States is the mortgage market. One of the major players in the market, at least until this month, is Fannie Mae. Fannie Mae was initially established in 1938 in order to provide a secondary mortgage market. What does this mean? It would buy mortgages from one lender and sell mortgages to another. It played the role of a broker who helped make the market work.

Fannie Mae because a private company in 1968 and continued to fund mortgages by issuing mortgage backed securities (i.e., MBS). When Fannie Mae issues the MBS she is guaranteeing the investors a return on their investment and, at the same time, providing a source of funds to supply additional mortgages.

Fannie Mae was not standing on a corner selling mortgages out of a hot dog stand on the corner. She needed help on Wall Street. So, who helped her market the securities and raise the case? The “good” folks at Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and AIG, just to name the more prominent ones.

So who was in charge of Fannie Mae for 16 of the last 18 years? Let’s start with James A. Johnson (no relation). Remember him? Barack initially tabbed him to head up the Vice Presidential search team. He was Walter Mondale’s campaign manager in the 1984 fiasco and chaired the search committee for John Kerry. But he started as Vice Chairman of Fannie Mae in 1990, quickly moved up to be the CEO, and left Fannie in 1999 as Chairman of the Executive Committee.

And guess where he went? Fishing? Nope. He became one of the outside directors of
Corporate Finance for Lehman Brothers.

The roles of Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers are important to understand if you are to make sense of Fannie Mae’s collapse. When Johnson moved to Goldman Sachs, the main man at Fannie was Franklin D. Raines. Late in 2005 Raines resigned from Fannie Mae, accused of being in charge when the books were cooked. The scheme is fairly simple. Raines and other top executives made bonuses if they hit specific earnings targets for the securities sold by Fannie Mae. They regularly hit those targets until it was discovered by the (SEC) Securities & Exchange Commission’s top accountant Fannie misstated earnings for 3 1/2 years, leading to an estimated $9 billion restatement that will wipe out 40% of profits from 2001 to mid-2004.

And yet, as Johnson says, we hear nothing about this from the media!

Global Warming Hoax

A few days ago I wrote and posted a lengthy comment on the nonsense that man made global warming really is.

Link to post.

A writer named Jonas responded with the following. I found it so interesting that I am posting it here where it will have a better chance of being read than as a comment to a post.

I confess that I am not a scientist, and didn't even sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I do have an engineering background, once had a business card that said so, and have a great deal of respect for the various laws that govern our universe and am a skeptic on anything that is defined as a "model" or any "formula" that uses numbers that are "estimated." Color me biased but I cleaned up too many messes caused by "estimates" and "models."

Please feel free to comment.

Anyone wanting more info/ confirmation/sources of data on the CO2 'marlarky' do please contact me.

Cologne Gives In to Violence after Mayor Calls for Intolerance

I keep noting that Europe is the canary in the mine when it comes to the take over of Europe by Muslims. The canary is dead.

Today, 5,000 left-wing demonstrators – self-proclaimed “anti-fascists” – prevented a peaceful gathering on Heumarkt in downtown Cologne of opponents of the Islamisation of Europe. The gathering had been planned by Pro Cologne, a conservative political party which is opposing the building of a giant mosque in the city, the fourth largest town in Germany. The mosque is to have a dome 37 meters high and two minaret stretching up 55 meters. It is being built by the Cologne branch of the department of religious affairs of Turkey, which reports directly to the Prime Minister of Turkey.

Pro Cologne had invited politicians from other European parties that oppose Islamization – namely Filip Dewinter, a leader of the Flemish Vlaams Belang party, Andreas Mölzer, a member of the European Parliament for the Austrian Freedom Party, and Mario Borghezio, a member of the European Parliament for the Italian Northern League – to address the meeting. The German police prevented Dewinter and Mölzer from leaving Cologne airport and prohibited the Pro Cologne meeting after left-wing demonstrators barred people from entering Heumarkt.

In a comment at the Gates of Vienna blog an eyewitness wrote:

"I am sitting in my hotel now after a long day in Cologne I was attacked on Eibahnstrasse by Antifa [“anti-fascist”] thugs as I tried to make my way to Heumarkt where we were slated to meet for our conference. My friend Michael Kucherov was beaten up yesterday. I am utterly shocked by the behavior of the police who seem to be acting as a surrogate of Antifa. I am not writing a very coherent post because I am exhausted, in pain and just bewildered by how far gone Europe is at this point."

Michael Kucherov is a Jewish member of Pro Cologne. The police decided to prohibit the Pro Cologne meeting because they could not guarantee the safety of people going to attend the gathering. “We can't allow a few hundred people to deliberately enter a battleground,” a police spokesman told the press. Only some 50 opponents of Islamisation managed to reach Heumarkt, including Mario Borghezio who held an impromptu speech – in Italian.

The writing is on the wall and plain to see. One must not oppose anything that the Muslim wants to do. As bin Ladin said to Peter Arenett in an interview 3/97 as to what it will take to achieve peace.

REPORTER: Mr. Bin Ladin, will the end of the United States' presence in Saudi Arabia, their withdrawal, will that end your call for jihad against the United States and against the US ?

BIN LADIN:.... So, the driving-away jihad against the US does not stop with its withdrawal from the Arabian peninsula, but rather it must desist from aggressive intervention against Muslims in the whole world.

Interview

You know, you would think of all the people in the world the Germans would know to read and belief what radicals write and say.

Demos dis troops.... again

My Leftie commentator, DA, continues to provide eye popping excuses for the actions of the uber Left’s hand maidens, aka Demo Congress critters… I had posted:

“Citing General Petraeus by name, the resolution, which is sponsored by Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman and Republican Lindsey Graham, "commends and expresses the gratitude to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for the service, sacrifices, and heroism that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible."

The Senators -- allies of John McCain -- had hoped to attach the resolution to a defense bill under consideration this week. But Mr. Reid wouldn't allow it. Democrats have often claimed that while they may oppose the war in Iraq, they wholeheartedly support the troops. That's a defensible position, and this resolution honoring our soldiers and Marines for a job well done gave them a chance to back up their rhetoric. Yet they still balked

I wonder why Hussein didn't reach across the aisle and work with Republicans to get this resolution attached.”

DA wrote:

You might try a less biased news source:

Democrats, however, say multiple factors in addition to the surge have led to less violence in Iraq -- such as the formation of Sunni Awakening Councils opposed to al Qaeda; Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's call to his militias to obey a cease-fire, and the rising competency of the Iraqi security forces. The Democratic leadership also is loath to bring anything to the Senate floor that could help McCain.

Democratic leaders had been working on an alternative to Lieberman's non-binding resolution in hopes of giving rank-and-file members something to vote for without contradicting Obama. They would not allow Lieberman's resolution to come to the floor because it was not related to a defense bill being debated.

Liebermann presumably has been in the Senate long enough to know the right time to present a resolution.

Sounds like Liebermann is trying to get attention for himself, especially since he didn't qualify for the VP role.

Some new facts about the surge:

A new study released today by the University of California, Los Angeles concludes that ethnic violence — not the Bush administration’s surge — was the primary factor in reducing violence in Iraq. As FP Passport notes, researchers used satellite imagery from the Pentagon to track “electricity use in Iraq before, during, and after the surge took place”:

“If the surge had truly ‘worked,’ we would expect to see a steady increase in night-light output over time,” says Thomas Gillespie, one of the co-authors, in a press release. “Instead, we found that the night-light signature diminished in only certain neighborhoods, and the pattern appears to be associated with ethno-sectarian violence and neighborhood ethnic cleansing.”

from the report:

'Night light in neighborhoods populated primarily by embattled Sunni residents declined dramatically just before the February 2007 surge and never returned, suggesting that ethnic cleansing by rival Shiites may have been largely responsible for the decrease in violence for which the U.S. military has claimed credit, the team reports in a new study based on publicly available satellite imagery. "Essentially, our interpretation is that violence has declined in Baghdad because of intercommunal violence that reached a climax as the surge was beginning," said lead author John Agnew, a UCLA professor of geography and authority on ethnic conflict. "By the launch of the surge, many of the targets of conflict had either been killed or fled the country, and they turned off the lights when they left." The night-light signature in four other large Iraqi cities — Kirkuk, Mosul, Tikrit and Karbala — held steady or increased between the spring of 2006 and the winter of 2007, the UCLA team found. None of these cities were targets of the surge. Baghdad's decreases were centered in the southwestern Sunni strongholds of East and West Rashid, where the light signature dropped 57 percent and 80 percent, respectively, during the same period.'

and, from Global Guerrillas:

The REAL reason that the US threw out COIN and adopted open source counter-insurgency (the 'IBM strategy' I mention in this 2005 article in the NYTimes). We embraced the insurgents. We gave them autonomy (based on primary loyalties to tribe/sect) from the government. Gave them protection from the Mahdi army, weapons, training, and jobs. Once we did this, the civil war collapsed. This was the social systempunkt that produced the network effects needed -- nothing else explains the speed of the switch.

What's interesting is that this result wasn't the result of planning at the White House or by Petraeus. As is almost always the case (when network effects are involved), innovation on the ground produced the formula necessary for the social systempunkt and the success was reinforced by command (after the fact). We are particularly lucky since the US military doesn't often support the "Open Decision Making" process that produced this result.

So, I should believe you, or my lying eyes...............

I responded:

Global Guerrillas? Non-biased?

hahahaha

The bill "not related...?

hehehe

How many times do you think non-related amendments have been attached???

Besides, who would vote against a bill honoring the troops?

hahahahahaha... I guess we know. Harry "We surrender" Reid..and other Leftie Demos..

The Demos gonna have their own "resolution?"

Okay.... You got any problems with TWO resolutions??

DA, the actions of Reid are driven by a desire to not admit that the surge has worked and the war is being won.

That's politics. Nothing more, nothing less.

It is also despicable. Shame on you and shame on the uber Left and their hand maidens in Congress.
