groan

Two Mexican detectives were investigating the murder of Juan Gonzalez.
'How was he killed?' asked one detective.
'With a golf gun,' the other detective replied.
'A golf gun! What is a golf gun?'
'I don't know. But it sure made a hole in Juan.'

Bill Mauldin - a brief introduction

If you have never read/looked at the cartoons of Bill Mauldin your education is incomplete.

He was unique in that he actually was a soldier and actually fought before his basically free lance work brought him to the attention of Stars and Stripes.

His work got him into trouble from time to time but unlike 99% of today's war reporters and cartoonists he understood that winning was the only thing. He said this about Patton:

"I always admired Patton. Oh, sure, the stupid bastard was crazy. He was insane. He thought he was living in the Dark Ages. Soldiers were peasants to him. I didn't like that attitude, but I certainly respected his theories and the techniques he used to get his men out of their foxholes."[2]

Mauldin understood that Patton's way was to train and train and train and then fight as hard as possible using every advantage you have. Think about Vietnam and our battles in Iraq and Afghanistan and how we have lost more and more men and women because we have been "proportional" in our response.

To hell with that. And if you think I am wrong, look where we are at.

But Mauldin's real talent was writing a thousand words with one picture. This one I first saw at about age 14 and it took me a few days to figure out what he was saying.

He understood men. He understood men and war. He never saw it as pretty but he always understood the human side.

The New York Helmsley Hotel last night abruptly canceled a long-planned banquet for next week after finding out that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was scheduled to attend and speak, The Post has learned.

Helmsley representatives told Ahmadinejad to beat it after being informed by the security group United Against Nuclear Iran that the Israel-hating, Holocaust-denying America basher was going to be in the house next Thursday.

Helmsley execs were unaware that Ahmadinejad -- who will be in town for a meeting of the UN General Assembly next week -- was involved in the event until informed by UANI yesterday.

"Neither the Iranian Mission nor President Ahmadinejad is welcome at any Helmsley facility. The Helmsley organization is grateful to United Against Nuclear Iran for bringing this matter to its attention so that appropriate action could be taken."

Hizb ut-Tahrir, an international movement seeking to re-establish an international Islamic state and indoctrinate Muslims into supporting jihad, wants to step up its recruitment efforts in the U.S. On July 19, the group, whose alumni include 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, will hold a conference entitled "The Fall of Capitalism and the Rise of Islam" in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in Oak Lawn, reports Investigative Project. This YouTube circulated by the group at its website confirms the Khilafah Conference 2009 date. Oak Lawn and Bridgeview host one of the nation's largest mosques.
