Dumb and dumber

For the life of me I cannot understand why those we actually call “educators” are so out of touch with reality. Is there any living and breathing person with an IQ above room temperature who doesn’t  know how bad Sharia Law is for females?

Yet here we have a middle school actually assigning this.

The worksheet, assigned to seventh-graders at Highland Hills Middle School, presents a passage written by a fictional 20-year-old Saudi woman named Ahlima, who feels “very fortunate” to live under Sharia law in Saudi Arabia. She writes about how she will soon become a man’s second wife and explains her modest dress: “I understand that some foreigners see our dress as a way of keeping women from being equal, but … I find Western women’s clothing to be horribly immodest.”

And when challenged, what is the response?

“Bill Briscoe, a spokesman for the district, said the curriculum is being reviewed in light of the complaints, per district policy.

Uh, Bill, what’s there to review? It’s propaganda. Pure and simple. Why are you pouring it into the  middle school students’ unfinished brains?

And what does the woman who created this insipid fake piece of drivel think?

The same worksheet, created by InspirEd Educators Inc., caused a controversy when it was used at a middle school in Smyrna, Ga., in 2011. Sharon Coletti, the creator of the worksheet and president of InspirEd Educators, said she received death threats and was accused of “indoctrinating” children at the time.

"Coletti, who is a Christian and longtime educator, said in an interview with the Courier-Journal that she wasn’t trying to indoctrinate anyone. She said she was just trying to create a lesson that was more engaging than dry, expository text pulled from a textbook.
“If I can shape something so that kids have to decide for themselves, once I get them involved in the situation, they never forget it,” she said…..”

Yes, Coletti. We understand. The problem is you don’t.

Karma strikes!

Every now and then someone acting like an asshole get what they deserve.

“I told you I would like him to change seats with somebody…” the woman said, before the flight attendant cut her off, “Well, you don’t have that right.”

The woman then began to berate the Trump supporter.

“You pretend you have the moral high ground but you put that man’s finger on the nuclear button. That man doesn’t believe in climate change,” she said, using air quotes for dramatic effect.

As a gate attendant attempted to intervene, she was unrelenting………….

“Will you grab your belongings and come with me?” the attendant asked her.

She then attempted to use her recently-deceased mother-in-law for why she should remain on the plane and be unaccountable for her behavior.

Refusing to leave the plane, she said, “I paid for this seat and I’m sitting here. He’s in my space.”

(Note the word “space.”)

Another video, taken from across the aisle, showed the woman sneering at the Trump supporter, then at passengers behind her before police ordered her off the plane.

Needless to say the plane was flying to Seattle.

I lived in Seattle, actually the ‘burb of Redmond, for right at 5 years back in the early 80’s. Loved it! Lousy climate but great people. Not especially conservative but not all that Leftie and mostly laid back. The local sports anchor on the NBC affiliate use to opine “Remember folks, it’s just a game!” when the Seahawks took a drubbing. And going to a Mariners game was mindful of going to a Little League game. People chatting, visiting, waving at friends and occasionally cheering when one of the players actually made a great play.

So what happened?  Why did a nice place to live turn into this?

There was a newspaper guy, an old guy, who wrote a column for the Seattle Times. Seems like he drove around with his dog and wrote stories about this and that.  Seems like he had a RV… And he was dead set against letting foreigners from California in.

I’m sure he’s dead now and I left long ago. I’m glad he didn’t live to see what the place has turned into.
