ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) — Carter County authorities say a homeowner fatally shot a hatchet-carrying intruder.
The Johnson City Press quoted Sheriff Chris Mathes, who said the early investigation Friday indicated it was self-defense.
Mathes said his office was called just after midnight Thursday to a home in the Roan Mountain community. He did not immediately identify those involved.
The sheriff said a report from the investigation would be submitted to District Attorney General Tony Clark.
Never bring a hatchet to a gun fight.
