30 percent of this country is seriously screwed up in the head
President Obama won the Gallup vote as most admired man, with 30 percent. Former President George W. Bush came in second with 4 percent, and former South African President Nelson Mandela got 3 percent.

The Commentator's Comment Award
After much research and great deliberation I give you the latest winner of "The Commentator's Comment Award." It was a close contest among several Lefties but I think this one, for its sheer statement of how the Left thinks, deserves it.
I give you:
In Response to Re: what is the worst crime of the 1st decade of the twentieth Century?:
In Response to Re: what is the worst crime of the 1st decade of the twentieth Century? : I happen to agree with byrthree about shoman and presume you fall into the same close-minded mindset as shoman.

The New York Times gets it wrong about NW 253
The finger pointing over NW 253 continues, and the spread of "Blame Bush" continues. From a NY Times article we learn this:
WASHINGTON — The finger-pointing began in earnest on Wednesday over who in the alphabet soup of American security agencies knew what and when about the Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up an airliner.
Okay, that's a start.
The crown jewel of intelligence reform after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the center was the hub whose mission was to unite every scrap of data on threats and suspects, to make sure an extremist like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the would-be bomber, would never penetrate the United States’ defenses.
“N.C.T.C. is supposed to be the nerve center,” said Amy B. Zegart, who studies intelligence at the University of California, Los Angeles. “It’s the fusion center of all fusion centers. So if something was missed, that’s where the blame is going to go.”
Fair enough, or at least so far.
“It’s totally frustrating,” said Thomas H. Kean, chairman of the national Sept. 11 commission. “It’s almost like the words being used to describe what went wrong are exactly the same.”
Eleanor Hill, staff director of the joint Congressional inquiry into Sept. 11, called the emerging story “eerily similar to the disconnects and missteps we investigated.”
“There seems to have been the same failure to put the pieces of the puzzle together and get them to the right people in time,” Ms. Hill said.
Now the trap has been set.
But two critical pieces of information appear never to have been connected: National Security Agency intercepts of Qaeda operatives in Yemen talking about using a Nigerian man for an attack, and a warning from Mr. Abdulmutallab’s father to American diplomats in Nigeria about the son’s radicalization in Yemen. If the National Counterterrorism Center or any other agency had those two items and never linked them, Congress and the public will want to know why.
The echoes of Sept. 11 are obvious. Before the attacks on New York and the Pentagon, the N.S.A., the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation all had gathered bits of intelligence about the future hijackers. The C.I.A. sounded the alarm about an impending attack, including the now-famous President’s Daily Brief of Aug. 6, 2001, titled, “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”
The trap is sprung. This is just Bush redux. Concentrate on the past. Pay no attention to climate of surrender the Left has created for the past year.
The author, Scott Shane, may or may not be aware of this bit of information from NSA Rice:
We convened on 5 July a special meeting of domestic federal law enforcement agencies because we could not rule out the possibility that the attack would be in the U.S." In fact, that was the meeting that we asked him to convene.
"At the special meeting on July 5 were the FBI, Secret Service, FAA, Customs, Coast Guard, and Immigration. We told them that we thought a spectacular al Qaeda terrorist attack was coming in the near future." That had been had been George Tenet's language. "We asked that they take special measures to increase security and surveillance. Thus, the White House did ensure that domestic law enforcement including the FAA knew that the CSG believed that a major al Qaeda attack was coming, and it could be in the U.S., and did ask that special measures be taken."
Link
So the August 6 PDB was redundant. It was old news to Bush who rightfully indicated his displeasure. Yet the press continues to talk about it as if the July 5 meeting and warning never happened.
That is either disingenuous or demonstrates ignorance of the facts. Reporters and newspapers should do better. But I don't think you will ever see a Lame Stream Media editor or reporter question such dim bulb reporting.

France leads the way on a carbon tax
Well, it looks like the French have exhibited a bit of common sense. But not much.
Dec. 30 (Bloomberg) -- France’s constitutional court rejected a proposed tax on carbon emissions, saying a web of exemptions violated the principal of equality and rendered efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions ineffective.
The government said it will make new proposals on Jan. 20.
The tax, which would have started on Jan. 1, was set at 17 euros ($24.38) per ton of carbon-dioxide emissions, President Nicolas Sarkozy said in September. To make the tax more palatable, he partially or fully exempted power plants, public transport, airlines, farming and fishing, as well as 1,018 older cement, steel and glass factories.
In all, 93 percent of all industrial carbon emissions in France would have avoided paying the full tax, the constitutional court said in a decision published on its Web site. The tax would have fallen disproportionately on fuel for heating and cars, it said.
“The court ruled that the system of exemptions, due to their extensive nature, were contrary to the objective of fighting global warming and contravene the principle of equality before the tax system,” the court said.
The court rejected all the articles relating to the carbon tax in the government’s 2010 budget.
In a statement, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said a carbon tax remains a “priority for the President of the Republic and the government.” He said changes to satisfy the constitutional court will be presented at a cabinet meeting Jan. 20.
Let me help you get this in perspective.
A gallon of gasoline produces about 20 pounds of carbon dioxide. Now if you drive 20,000 miles a year, which many US drivers do, and if your car averages 20 miles per gallon, then you have used 1000 gallons of gasoline. That is 20,000 pounds or 10 tons of carbon dioxide. That's %243.80 using France's tax rate.
Now you can collect that in one of two ways. First by a mileage reading. The DOT notes your mileage when you register the first time, then when you register the second time, subtract and you have the mileage. Take the EPA's two estimated MGP numbers, average the two and divide the result into the miles driven to get the gallons used. Then do the math for the carbon dioxide produced and price out the tax.
Now that's too easy plus they'd have to wait sometime before the second event (trading, selling, etc.). Maximum one year. Bureaucrats and econo freaks won't like that so you can bet your sweet bippy that someone will come up with a national average and we'll get a fifty cent per gallon carbon tax.
Of course the poor will get a rebate as a reminder to vote Democrat.

Bush is to blame for NW 253
I wondered how long it would take for the Left to start blaming Bush for the Christmas Bomber. And it didn't take long.
One of the four leaders allegedly behind the al Qaeda plot to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet over Detroit was released by the U.S. from the Guantanamo prison in November 2007, according to American officials and Department of Defense documents. Al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the Northwest bombing in a Monday statement that vowed more attacks on Americans.
American officials agreed to send the terrorist from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia, where he entered into an "art therapy rehabilitation program" and was set free, according to U.S. and Saudi officials.
ABC News link.
The screeds are two pronged. First that innocent sweeties have been radicalized by unjust imprisonment and secondly, Bush let the bad ones go along with the ex-sweeties.
Yeah, I know. You couldn't make this sh*t up but remember you are talking Lefties here, all of them suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome made worse by the many failures of their demi-god, Obamie The Bower.
And when you ask them why they were just a few weeks ago screaming for us to release more they become angry and nasty.
But I have to admit that early on I was sure we could beat al-Qaeda with sex, drugs, rock 'n roll and skin tight blue jeans... I mean, who could think of jihad when sweet thing strolled by with that oh so nice roll of her hips? Problem is we haven't figured out how to get the blue jeans to the girls, much less the girls in the jeans.. and since failing to "just say no" doesn't mean special classes for pregnant students but stoning...
Well, that strategy isn't working out too well.
I also thought that the base problem was poverty. Give'em food, clothes and a way out and jihad would be a thing of the past.
And I was partly right but mostly wrong. Oh, the great unwashed will riot when called to do so by their radical Imams and kill their daughters for not wanting to marry their 70 year old cousin back home, but the real problems have not come from the Arab Street. The problems have come from the supposedly educated children of the middle and upper class. Check it out. The Christmas Bomber was a child of luxury. Look at the English and Scotland bombers. All middle class, most born in England. Major Hasan was born in the USA well educated and a Doctor. Then there was the university professor in FL who was tried and finally deported. The UNC student who decided to drive his car through groups of his fellow students. And just recently, the university student who killed his professor... and yes, members of the 9/11 terrorist team... and I am sure I have missed some.
I think that many young people are born with a desire to serve. To be members of a greater cause. To be a member of a special group.
We see it in high school cliches and sports, university sororities, joining the armed services and yes, juvenile gangs of thugs.
And never having been asked to sacrifice, sacrifice itself becomes the goal. We saw it in the 60's in hippy communes and groups composed mostly of middle and upper class kids. And we saw it later in the Kool Aid Massacre and in Waco.
And we are seeing it now in the attacks by the Muslim children of wealth and those born in the USA.
Simply put, the problem is that the radicals have turned wealth and privilege into an evil spectre. Recognizing they have done nothing except being born into wealth and privilege and not seeing the extremists shut down by their closed society they become easy targets.
The fact is that they are not being assimilated into western culture. Neither here, England or Europe.
And this is were the saying gets difficult. We have no choices. We must insure by whatever means necessary that in the US they assimilate or are tossed back to where they came from. And if the rest of western civilization doesn't follow our lead then we must get ready for a very long and very nasty war.

How can I resist redux
Trust me
This PM I received a rather thoughtful email from a young female who indicated strongly that she wanted to be my friend. My close friend. My close personal friend.
I never knew that my magnetic personality was so strong that it reached through the ether and bits and bytes and cause female swooning and deep rapid breathing.
But now I have evidence that it can.
Just as I recently had evidence that I was a person so trustworthy I could receive thousands, nay millions, of an unclaimed inheritance and distribute it to its rightful owners.
But why do I get the feeling that after a few emails back and forth "she" will want to give me a present, and all I need to is accept the International Money Order and, to show her my love, return a mere 10% or so via an USPS money order to a friend in the US? Of course the International Money Order will be fake and the USPS one will be real, paid for with my money. Out of the same pocket that the bank will demand I refund them the money they gave me from the International Money Order.
The question is, how do they get your email address?
I think in my case it goes back about three years ago when I placed a first edition of a book of poetry for sale on Ebay. Since it was one of only around 800 copies printed I put a healthy price on the rare copy.
And received an order for it almost immediately. I was so pleased I failed to note that the purchaser was a "Guest" member.
And when the email said he was in Scotland, I didn't mind. We traded some triva, established overseas shipping costs and established that since he wasn't a PayPal member, an International Money Order (IMO)would be fine.
Then the plot thickened. It was revealed that he was not the real purchaser but merely the agent for the purchaser who lived in Niger. And since hard currency was difficult to obtain he had, by some unstated means, managed to obtain an IMO payable in US funds, but the amount was quite a bit more than the purchase price of the book.
Would I mind accepting the IMO, cashing it, mailing the book and, keeping a suitable fee of my naming, mail the remaining cash to a friend in the US who would use the funds to purchase things for the person in Niger? Or if I didn't like that I could just purchase a USPS money order, or whatever.....
Somewhere in there I decided I wasn't really as stupid as they thought I was. I asked my bank what would be my position if the IMO was fake. It took'em about 30 seconds to say, "Responsible." Which mneant the bank got their money back, the thief got the book and since they wanted the USPS MO overnighted, it would be cashed and the thief long gone with the money.
When I emailed my dear chum in Scotland that the deal was off, he insisted that he had just sent me the IMO with a prepaid UPS envelope for me to use to send the USPS money order to his friend... and to please hurry because the funds were to be used to purchase cancer drugs to be sent to his mother in Niger.
And yes, the UPS pachage showed up and I refused it which caused the UPS folks quite a bit of concern.
I also reported all this to Ebay security who basically said, "Let the seller beware."
But once you get on the sucker list you never get off.

Books I am reading
I discovered D'Este while looking for a biography on Patton and then Eisenhower. He's retired military so I find him more believable than many authors on military matters.
"Warlord" covers Churchill from childhood through 1945 and although I have read several books on (and by) Churchill I find this one fascinating. It has 101 pages of notes, references and bibliography so you can make a good guess that it is detailed and (sometimes) heavy reading.
Booker is a man made global warming skeptic and this book details in page after page how the hoax was put together and why.
It should be required reading by every high school sophomore and TV news person.
It too has page after page of references and sources but who of the true believers will accept mere facts for the blessings and love bestowed on them by Pope Algore?

The Left Wing On Parade over NW 253
Can't we all just get along?
Obviously, people shouldn’t be lighting anything on fire inside airplanes. That said, all the big Christmas airline incident really shows to me is how little punch our dread terrorist adversaries really pack.
That has to be one of the dumbest statements I have ever read.
Once again, this seems like a pretty unserious plot. And even if you did manage to blow up an airplane in mid-air, that would be both a very serious crime and a great tragedy, but hardly a first-order national security threat.
But the above tops it.
Both come from Mathew Yglesias at ThinkProgress and yes he is a Leftie of the first order.
And thinking that this guy actually lives here and is a fellow citizen...well I still don't know whether to laugh, cry or puke. But the latter seems to be appropriate
The only thing that seems even close was this written by Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of the DailyKOS.
That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries [sic]. They aren't in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. Screw them.
He was referring to the death of the food workers in Iraq who were killed and then their bodies were dragged through the streets and put on display. (We have since captured the leader in this and three SEALS are being Court martialed because one of them may have....................GASP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............hit him........ What idiots we have for leaders.)

Yes, NW 253 is Obama's fault
Now that the details are coming out on just how badly Obamie The Bower has let his minions screw the pooch regarding our collective safety from terrorist attacks we can be sure that a rash of attacks on Bush regarding 9/11 will be forth coming from the various Leftie blogs and forums.
I have compiled a modest summary of some of the activities of Bush and his administration and offer them for your review.
So as the Left continues with its attempts to rewrite history the always popular subject is that Bush did nothing to prevent 9/11. Of course that is pure nonsense, and deserves to be scorned. In addition I note that that doesn’t track with what
Richard Clarke, Clinton’s NSA who was retained by Bush, has said. From an interview:
“RICHARD CLARKE: Actually, I've got about seven points, let me just go through them quickly. Um, the first point, I think the overall point is, there was no plan on Al Qaeda that was passed from the Clinton administration to the Bush administration.
Second point is that the Clinton administration had a strategy in place, effectively dating from 1998. And there were a number of issues on the table since 1998. And they remained on the table when that administration went out of office — issues like aiding the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, changing our Pakistan policy -- uh, changing our policy toward Uzbekistan. And in January 2001, the incoming Bush administration was briefed on the existing strategy. They were also briefed on these series of issues that had not been decided on in a couple of years.”
Clarke rambles a bit here, but there are two key points. There was no PLAN but there was a STRATEGY. But since Clinton could not solve the Northern Alliance, Pakistan, etc. problem, and had not for over two years, Clinton couldn’t produce a PLAN. (Remember that "strategy" proceeds "plan." A strategy states in broad terms while a plan is focused on parts of the strategy. That is, the strategy to invade Europe during WWII contained thousands of plans regarding specific events, tasks and objectives.)
“And the third point is the Bush administration decided then, you know, in late January, to do two things. One, vigorously pursue the existing policy, including all of the lethal covert action findings, which we've now made public to some extent.
And the point is, while this big review was going on, there were still in effect, the lethal findings were still in effect. The second thing the administration decided to do is to initiate a process to look at those issues which had been on the table for a couple of years and get them decided.
So, point five, that process which was initiated in the first week in February, uh, decided in principle, uh in the spring to add to the existing Clinton strategy and to increase CIA resources, for example, for covert action, five-fold, to go after Al Qaeda.”
Clarke rambles again, but the two key points are that within days of the start of the start of the Bush administration it was decided to increase resources for going after al-Qaeda, “five fold.”
The second point is that nothing Clinton had started was stopped. “…the lethal findings were still in effect.”
So Bush kept Clinton’s CIA going and decided to increase the resources 500%.Now you can argue that this wasn’t enough, but the facts are that this was 7 months before 9/11 and demonstrates Bush’s belief that there was a problem and pledged to increase the resources.
Plus, the problems with the Northern Alliance and Pakistan that Clinton could not solve for over two years still remained for Bush to solve.
“ANGLE: So, just to finish up if we could then, so what you're saying is that there was no — one, there was no plan; two, there was no delay; and that actually the first changes since October of '98 were made in the spring months just after the administration came into office?
CLARKE: You got it. That's right.”
Link
Now the Left likes to make much over the Presidential Daily Briefing that Bush received on 8/6/01 that said that al-Qaeda was going to attack. Bush’s response was less than nice, dismissing the briefer with an “Okay, now you’ve done your job” type comment.
Why was he grumpy? Most likely because there was nothing new in the report and he regarded it as a CYA by staff. Why do I say this? Because he already knew it.
"At the special meeting on July 5 (2001) were the FBI, Secret Service, FAA, Customs, Coast Guard, and Immigration.
Link
The above is from an interview with NSA Rice and shows that 32 days before the meeting Bush knew about it and had his NSA warn all the agencies. And there was little more he could have done outside declaring martial law and taking control of all entrances into the US and all movements within the US.
So there you have the facts. Clinton dithered and Bush took action. It may not have been enough but it was all he could have done, and should have done based on the information he had.
He had no watch lists. But he did have Chinese Firewalls between the FBI and CIA courtesy of Jamie Gorelick of the Clinton administration. There were not any "no fly" lists. But he did have a FBI that was so fearful of violating a potential terrorists "Rights" courtesy of the Clinton administration they wouldn't take action.
Of course Obamie The Bower had watch lists and no fly lists yet the terrorist who tried to destroy NW 253 was allowed to slip through. And Obamie the Bower's attitude of "can't we all just get along" has clearly influenced both this and the Fort Hood shooter incidents.

I think that Obama and his brilliant, super qualified, apolitical, HS czar Napolitano are doing a bang up job! I just hope that the attack by a confused, misunderstood black, islamofacist, member of the religion of peace and love doesn’t deter them from their stated goal of pursuing the folks who are the real threat to America. i.e Americans of evil intent, as described in a memo by napolitano’s DHS..” (as) “right-wing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms — and.. (particularly).. war veterans …." That’s what the obamatuer administration is all about..keeping an eye on our war veterans and pro lifers!
Hopefully, our First Engagementarianist will continue to ensure our security by relentlessly pursuing right wing extremists at home and not waste any time on the crazy notion, fabricated by Fox News and right wing talk radio, that peace loving muslims, who in obama’s own words, have contributed so much to civilization, are a threat to America. He must continue to offer his hand in reconciliation to Al Quada and the muslim terrorists. Additionally, It would probably help if he would apologize to the Islamofacists for everything America has done over the last 300 years and beg their forgiveness, at least a couple of times a week. As I suggested, doing a bang up job!

NW flight 253 - Saved by Homeland Security!
You really couldn't make this up.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that "the system worked."
Asked by CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who has been charged with trying to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the jet, Napolitano responded: "We're asking the same questions."
Napolitano added that there was "no suggestion that [the suspect] was improperly screened."

AirTran 297 UAL 227 and NW 253 all have Muslims in common
I would say NW 253 had a radical Muslim terrorist on board.
The other two just had Muslim men on board who were removed for not following instructions from the flight attendants.
Nothing unusual about that. Happens all the time. Small groups of men get up while the aircraft is moving, ignore the flight attendants, try and swap seats and move carry on luggage around. Yep, happens every day. Saw it hundreds of times during the almost three million miles I have flown on commercial flights. Yes sir. No doubt.
Not.
AirTran 297 posts
I have seen people get up just while the plane is almost at the arrival gate despite the flight crew's warning to stay seated in case of sudden stops. The most memorable was a lady who jumped up and tried to open the overhead luggage bin and when the pilot hit the brakes staggered forward and sideways, falling into and between the seats managing to get both legs almost vertical for quite a time. Not content to only displaying her undies she also displayed her lack of common sense when she jumped on the flight attendants for somehow causing her to fall.
I have seen a few cases in which a single passenger decided they needed to either get something down or put something up in the overhead bins.
But never 11, which was AirTran 297 and never 7, which was UAL 227.
Oh, you haven't heard of UAL 227? That might be because it got almost zero play in the media. But it did happen.
It happened again on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, less than a month after the incident aboard AirTran Flight 297.
United Airlines Flight 227, scheduled to depart Denver International Airport at 1:50 pm Wednesday for Los Angeles was disrupted when several passengers who were described as Middle Eastern in appearance, confirmed by this investigator to be a group of Muslims traveling together, were removed from that aircraft due to suspicious behavior that originated in the terminal and continued to the airplane. Their behavior was consistent in some respects to the behavior of the Muslim passengers aboard AirTran Flight 297 on November 17, 2009 that caused a flurry of controversy over its legitimacy, and the now infamous case of the “Flying Imams” of 2006.
According to information obtained by this investigator, seven men of Middle Eastern appearance, boarded flight 227. Two took their seats in coach, while five took their seats in the first class section of the plane. At a critical pre-flight point, the individuals appeared to act in concert with one another, changing seats and moving stowed luggage to very specific areas of the aircraft, often having to move the stowed bags of other passengers to do so. They disobeyed or otherwise ignored the admonitions of the flight attendants to remain seated.
Their behavior was so overt and so apparently choreographed, according to our sources, that the flight crew demanded the passengers be removed from the aircraft. One report found on 9News in Denver quoted John Sloan, a passenger aboard that flight:
“I have never seen flight attendants so scared in my life. Everything turned out OK, but it was not a very good feeling..”

Now, are the two disturbances connected to NW 253? No.
Are the two disturbances connected to each other? I don't know. In both cases there was little Lame Stream Media coverage at the time of the events and no follow up.
What I do know is that this shouldn't be tolerated. If the descriptions of the events on AirTran 297 and UAL 227 are accurate it appears that federal laws were broken.
I have to wonder why nothing was done.

Delta Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit survives radical Muslim attack
WASHINGTON (AP) -- U.S. officials say a Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria said he was acting on behalf of al-Qaida when he tried to blow up a flight Friday as it landed in Detroit.
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., identified the suspect as Abdul Mudallad, a Nigerian. King said the flight began in Nigeria and went through Amsterdam en route to Detroit.
One of the U.S. intelligence officials said the explosive device was a mix of powder and liquid. It failed when the passenger tried to detonate it.

The motive of the Christmas Day attack was not immediately clear.
Uh, evidently the writer is unwilling to believe the terrorist, has never heard of al-Qaida and has been out of the universe for the past 8 years and 105 days.
And some people wonder why I call them the Lame Stream Media.

(Some reports say Northwest, others say Delta. Remember Delta and Northwest are merging into one airline.)
