Gas has hit $3.19.9

for regular at my local stations. That's an all time high for this area. Reports are that demand is down, yet the price is going up. When this happens the natives have a tendency to become restless and think thoughts about price fixing and speculating.

Which, of course, has been going on for years. It is called OPEC for price fixing and the commodities market for speculation. But it is just now become painful enough for most people to become concerned. Whether that will translate into mobs with pitchforks and flaming torches is highly doubtful, but the Repubs should be concerned. They happen to control the White House and thus will receive most of the blame.

That's sad because the Demos have also done nothing, having been too busy surrendering to the terrorists in Iraq, investigating HGH and steroid use in MLB, why Bush fired people the Constitution says he can fire and blocking the renewal of the FISA law to try and solve the problem.

Which may be a blessing, seeing as how their solutions to anything typically requires a tax increase.

Supposedly we have a hole in the ground in LA that we have been pouring crude oil in the event we have an emergency. I would say that is NOW. Perhaps Bush and the Demos have forgot about it. Or perhaps Exxon snuck over last summer with a siphoning hose and filled all their tankers.

So you think Congressional Democrats, who have had majority control for one year, should share the blame with Junior for high gas prices? Bush was critical of Al Gore in the 2000 campaign for being part of “the administration that’s been in charge” while the “price of gasoline has gone steadily upward.” He didn't mention Congressional Republicans, who had held the majority for six years at the time.

In January 2000, at the New Hampshire Republican Primary debate, Mr. Bush said, "What I think the president ought to do is he ought to get on the phone with the OPEC cartel and say we expect you to open your spigots...And the president of the United States must jawbone OPEC members to lower the price..."

And in June 2000 he said, "I would work with our friends in OPEC to convince them to open up the spigot, to increase the supply," Mr. Bush, the presumptive Republican candidate for president, told reporters here today. "Use the capital that my administration will earn, with the Kuwaitis or the Saudis, and convince them to open up the spigot."

The average US price of regular gasoline was $1.46 a gallon when Bush 43 assumed the presidency.

Gas Buddy puts today's price at $3.229.

And in many parts of America, especially rural areas far from distribution pipelines, consumers are facing the imminent prospect of the $4 gallon.

Meanwhile in Washington, White House press secretary Dana Perino admitted on March 5 this year that the President is "disappointed that they decided not to increase production." President Bush himself whined of OPEC's intransigence that "I think it's a mistake to have your biggest customer's economy to slow down." Powerless now as throughout his presidency, Bush feebly concluded "Until we change our habits, there's going to be more dependency on oil."

Which just goes to show the American people what happens when they place their trust in the jawbone of an ass.
