The birth of modern day Islamic terrorism and how Obama lost the Middle East

I remember November 4, 1979 and the birth of modern day Islamic terrorism.

I had made a sales call at a company in central Kentucky and had then driven 150 miles or so to Lexington. It had been a cold day with some rain making driving a real chore. I was meeting another customer for dinner and arrived at the Hyatt about 5:00.

Now I would like to impress you by noting that I had been studying the situation for over a year and was deeply concerned that Carter, who I had voted for in 1976, would fold like a cheap suit and we would suffer the consequences for the next 35 plus years. But I can't.

My wife and I was busy making a living, raising a family, redoing a house and, in general, doing what working middle class folks do.

Oh, I had kept up, more or less, with what was happening and had formed the opinion that Carter was an idiot and was doing the wrong thing by opposing the Shah, but I figured we'd muddle through and maybe I was wrong and maybe the people of Iran would have democracy.

Well, I wasn't wrong and we didn't muddle through.

So I had drinks and dinner with the customer, a nice guy even if he was a UK grad and an insufferable UK basketball fan, and we both agreed that although this was bad, the upside was that Carter would be forced to show some backbone and take whatever actions necessary to retake our embassy.

I was wrong and it was the beginning of the end of the Carter administration. It was also the birth of modern day Islamic terrorism that was, and is, state sponsored.

Think what could have happened if Carter had acted and prevented the establishment of the Islamic Theocracy that Iran became.

Iraq would have never invaded Iran and we would not supported Iraq.

How many millions would not have been killed??

Hamas and Hezbollah would have been suppressed and the destruction of Lebanon would not have happened.

Palestine would have most likely accept the peace accords brokered between Palestine and Israel by Clinton, if Arafatt was even a player.

The Soviets would not have invaded Afghanistan in 1979 because Iran would not have been seen by the Soviets as a possible partner for the establishment of a oil pipeline from the USSR to a war water port and the military consequences of a warm water port for them.

So we would not have supported the Afghanistan rebels. bin Ladin would never have went to there, the Taliban would not have existed, al Qaeda would not have existed and 9/11 would have been just another workday.

But Carter did nothing and the deadly history happened.

You would think that anyone in our State Department or educated in an Ivy League elitist coven would know that and not do it again.

You would be wrong.

The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.

On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.

This morning we have reports of the Muslim Brotherhood being invited into the negotiations. The MB is a terrorist organization and only fools, or worse, such as those in our own government, could have thought that supporting overthrow of the Egyptian government would do anything except open the door to the Muslim Brotherhood and the ultimate installation of an Islamic Theocracy that will foster hatred of the US and Israel and work with Iran to harm both.

Again we find that it is the Left, the leftovers from the 60's and 70's that we have allowed to again gain power, that is losing a whole region of the world and placing us and our allies in extreme danger.
