Palin and Troopergate

As Sgt Friday said, "Just the facts Mam."

As you know, I've been in Law Enforcement for many years. There is nothing worse than a bad cop. This Palin attack about the Alaska State trooper has caught my attention. Here are a few links to the investigation about the accuser. You be the judge. However if I was in the Governor's seat at the time and my ex-brother-in-law did what I am seeing, I'd fire him immediately.

Alaska State Troopers' eventually investigated 13 issues and found four in which Wooten violated policy or broke the law or both:

• Wooten used a Taser on his stepson.

• He illegally shot a moose.

• He drank beer in his patrol car on one occasion.

• He told others his father-in-law would "eat a f'ing lead bullet" if he helped his daughter get an attorney for the divorce.

Beyond the investigation sparked by the family, trooper commanders saw cause to discipline or give written instructions to correct Wooten seven times since he joined the force, according to Grimes' letter to Wooten.

Those incidents included: a reprimand in January 2004 for negligent damage to a state vehicle; a January 2005 instruction after being accused of speeding, unsafe lane changes, following too closely and not using turn signals in his state vehicle; a June 2005 instruction regarding personal cell phone calls; an October 2005 suspension from work after getting a speeding ticket; and a November 2005 memo "to clarify duty hours, tardiness and personal business during duty time."

The Governor did the right thing.

I find it disgusting that the media, which has.... and rightfully so.... attacked government for shielding wrongful acts by law enforcement officers and officials now decides that Palin has "abused her authority." I wonder what they would want, to wait until someone is seriously hurt??

Hat tip to mightycujo!

  1. On the other hand

Palin said the "most disturbing" contact was a phone call by Frank Bailey, the governor's director of boards and commissions, to trooper Lt. Rodney Dial, the state troopers' liaison to the Legislature, in February 2008. The Public Safety Department recorded the call, as it does routinely, and the Palin administration released an audiotape of it on August 13.[15][33] In it, Bailey made several accusations against Wooten, including that he lied on his application to become a trooper. He was recorded saying "Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, 'why on earth hasn't, why is this guy still representing the department?'"[15] and "I'm telling you honestly, you know, she really likes Walt [Monegan] a lot, but on this issue, she feels like it's, she doesn't know why there is absolutely no action for a year on this issue. It's very, very troubling to her and the family. I could definitely relay that".[15] Bailey said in an interview on August 13 that that no one had asked him to make the call and he didn't know why he indicated in the call that he was speaking on behalf of the Palins.[15]

If Palin did the right thing, why is she refusing to give a deposition to the investigators, especially when she was promising to cooperate earlier, before she became Sidneys' VP pick?

The guy tasered a 10 year old, threatened to kill someone and drank on duty... I'll let the moose shooting slide....

    She did the right thing.

  4. The guy she fired showed bad judgement by not doing what his boss said.
