Palin and the Bush Doctrine

Well, the uber Left is in full howl, claiming that Palin didn't answer Charlie's attempt at trickery by using open ended questions. It didn't work. She gave him an open ended answer to each open ended question and a specific answer to each specific question.

You know chums, asking and answering questions is an art that all good sales people learn. This lady is good. Very good. But don't take my word for it, here is an excerpt from the transcript.

But first a warning to you uber Lefties. Reading transcripts rather than Leftie blogs may cause your head to explode.

Here we go:

GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?

PALIN: In what respect, Charlie?

GIBSON: The Bush -- well, what do you -- what do you interpret it to be?

PALIN: His world view.

That's a beautiful and accurate answer to a BS question.

GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.

PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.

That's exactly what Bush announced. We were going to take a hard line military approach. See "War and Decision" by Feith.

GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

PALIN: I agree that a president's job, when they swear in their oath to uphold our Constitution, their top priority is to defend the United States of America.

I know that John McCain will do that and I, as his vice president, families we are blessed with that vote of the American people and are elected to serve and are sworn in on January 20, that will be our top priority is to defend the American people.

Ah, Charlie finally asked a specific question regarding a tactic of the Bush Doctrine and he got a specific answer.

At that point his head must have been ready to fall off his shoulders. Because he asked the question again.

GIBSON: Do we have a right to anticipatory self-defense? Do we have a right to make a preemptive strike again another country if we feel that country might strike us?

PALIN: Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend.

You gotta love it. Her first answer was specific, but left plenty of room for the Left to criticize her. So what does this big time TV journalist do?? Gives her a chance to nail down the details.

It sure looks to me as if she answered the question.

Here. Read the rest.

  1. I would urge everyone to watch the interview, so that you can see how her body language clearly demonstrates how uncomfortable she is with the interview and how out of her depth she is.

BTW, your missing twin brother is posting at TL:

The term "Bush Doctrine" was created by the Left as a term of derision. It's hardly used at all on the Right except to extent it's rubbed off because of the MSM.

  2. Dark Avenger - You're totally ridiculous. Get yourself a pair of good glasses. You didn't need to "urge" me. I watched the interview because I was interested.

He was more out of his depth than she was. He looked like a disciplinarian interrogating a student. He sat so closed to her that his legs were nearly touching hers. If I had been Governor Palin, I would have stood up and pushed my chair away from his. His face had an angry scowl as opposed to hers, pleasant and with a relaxed smile, at times. She was fabulous and totally in control. Her "Charlie" had the patience of an angel. None of his ambushes confused her. She was able to answer clearly, even defiantly when needed.

She would have done better with Khrouchtchev than JFK in the 60s. He was treated like a schoolboy, and acted like one. With Sarah Palin, nobody will get away with that.

  3. Charlie Gibson isn't considered the worse of the TV questioners, she probably would've melted down under Mike Wallace or someone whose resume doesn't include hosting "Good Morning America".

"She was for it before she was against it."
