Last call for 1-12-10 NW253 Redux

As I write this it appears that NW 253 has had another "incident." I understand 4 men from Saudia Arabia refused to follow the flight attendants directions and the pilot asked for law enforcement to meet the air craft.

I am sure it was just a misunderstandung.

Just as AirTran 297 was.

Just as UAL227was.

And wasn't NW253 on Xmas day just a misunderstanding? I mean we misunderstood that the underwear bomber meant to blow the aircraft out of the sky.

And wasn't 9/11 just a misunderstanding? We misunderstood that Muslim radicals meant to attack the Pentagon, the capital and the WTC. Now they didn't hit the capital but they probably think 2 out of 3 aint bad!

I haven't heard a thing tonight about NW253 redux. The news about it was that the men were being "interviewed." So were the men from AirTran 297 and UAl 227... and then realesed.

This has obviously become a war of nerves. The intent is to depress air travel and make our government issue more and more dracionian rules. It is an absolute win win for the terrorists because by doing nothing but "disobey" they show the world how weak we are and that we will not enforce our rules and our laws.

The time has come for this to stop. This prelude to an attack should end with these people arrested and imprisoned.

And if Obamie the Bower doesn't have the guts to do it then it is time we impeach him for failure to protect the country.

Last call for 1-11-10

If nothing else the underwear bomber of NW 253 has proven that Americans don't take kindly to being attacked. In fact, he may have swung the pendulum back to the offense and ole mo may be favoring such things as "kill'em all and let God sort'em out."

Now that simplistic saying is not very nice and I would be the first to admit that as of 1-11-10 saying such in the nicer confines of the Internet will instantly earn you a snear and a snark.

But the facts are simply this.

There can be no real security as long as the enemy has the capability and desire to attack us.

The purpose of a war is to remove that capability by destroying the infrastructure surrounding the enemy and and killing enough of them that they lose the desire to attack.

I have speculated before that at some point the country will have to decide if it wants to suffer defeat by a 1000 cuts or go to war using all our technology and forces.

The Left, in general, has wanted to treat this as a criminal justice matter. Do nothing but react to an attack and try to prevent them with "bars on the windows."

The Right, in general, has wanted to treat this as an attack on the country and go war.

The criminal justice approach led to 9/11.

The "go to war" approach of Bush worked only to an extent because we became basically involved in nation building rather than war winning and started using "proportionate response."

We are now back to the criminal justice approach and so far it appears that the enemy sees this as weak.

Worse, the "war winning" strategy is being given only lip service, as it was in Vietnam, and this will only get a lot of US military killed.

Obama should either pull the military back and go on defense or go to a full out war.

He won't because he knows defense won't work and he won't face the political heat that would come with a successful attack within the US. And make no mistake. NW 253 was close. Very close. The actions of the passengers were great, but they would never have had a chance if the detonator had worked as designed.

The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.

Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in summer by 2013.

According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.

The scientists’ predictions also undermine the standard climate computer models, which assert that the warming of the Earth since 1900 has been driven solely by man-made greenhouse gas emissions and will continue as long as carbon dioxide levels rise.

Of course we also know that the carbon dioxide levels have been constant for the past 150 years.

To assess whether the airborne fraction is indeed increasing, Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol reanalyzed available atmospheric carbon dioxide and emissions data since 1850 and considers the uncertainties in the data.

In contradiction to some recent studies, he finds that the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades.

He and his colleagues predicted the new cooling trend in a paper published in 2008 and warned of it again at an IPCC conference in Geneva last September.

Last night he told The Mail on Sunday: ‘A significant share of the warming we saw from 1980 to 2000 and at earlier periods in the 20th Century was due to these cycles – perhaps as much as 50 per cent.
