He makes a beautiful point:
As in- we have all these college degrees floating around and we need to make them mean 'something'- so we'll make a requirement for a METER READER to have a college degree to drive a truck with an automatic meter reader in it.
In the meantime we have outsourced most of our manufacturing, almost all of our over the phone technical support and have enough government regulation to almost stop new business creation dead in its tracks.
But the government keeps loaning money to kids so they can get a useless degree and wind up doing a job that a high school drop out would have done 20 years ago.... and the college costs keep going up.. and will as long as the government keeps providing them cannon fodder. The only people making out here are the collection agencies.
You know, when you think about it that is the reason that Occupy Wall Street resonated with a lot of college kids and young adults, mostly Liberal Arts grads, who are just figuring out that saying, "Wanna biggie size that?" is all that college prepared them for and that they can't support themselves much less pay off those loans.
I almost feel sorry for them but feeling sorry for people who have done dumb things fixes nothing and if they find out about it they'll expect you to pay for their mistake. Even worse, they'll vote for Obama again because they can't make the connection that there is a difference in being paid for what you know and do versus what you think you know and don't do.
"Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." - Karl Popper
“It’s the presumption that Obama knows how all these industries ought to be operating better than people who have spent their lives in those industries, and a general cockiness going back to before he was president, and the fact that he has no experience whatever in managing anything. Only someone who has never had the responsibility for managing anything could believe he could manage just about everything.” - Thomas Sowell in Reason Magazine
