Bits and pieces

Yesterday WWII came to a close in 1945. I still remember how happy everyone was and how I was convinced, despite my Mom’s warning that my Dad and uncles would not be home immediately. It took six months but one day he just walked through the door. My uncles made it home over the next few months.

We were lucky. None were killed. 416,800 others never made it back.

I think of that every time some idiot Leftie starts off telling us that we shouldn’t have dropped the bomb. Of course we should have. It probably saved at least 200,000 American lives and that’s good enough for me.

And I know that’s a point that’s been made time and again, but it is also true. And in today’s world the truth needs repeating regularly.

Pulled up the cucumber vines. They were still blooming but the cucumbers were dampening off at the end. But we have plenty of pickle relish.

I called our local School Supt. He said he had just found out about Obama’s speech next Tuesday and hadn’t discussed it with his staff. He is either lying or oblivious. Neither is acceptable. Since he said “Obama is our President,” I think I know what his decision will be.

I briefly thought of telling him that since “our” was the possessive form of “we” I assumed that he thought we owned Obama but I didn’t want to correct the head school master.

The tomato plants are next. I shall get them this PM or tomorrow. I set out Better Boys and Better Girls and challenged them to race each other. They came in a dead heat. The cold spell after the first crop ripened hurt the secondary fruit considerably. They were smaller and tough but tasted good and the green ones fried well.

My youngest just dropped by for a visit and told me that in Thousand Oaks, CA an Obamie supporter had rushed across the street and attacked a group of anti-health care reform demonstrators and bit a finger off one of Obamie’s enemies. The finger became lodged in the attacker’s throat and he had to be rushed to the hospital.

No doubt the unpatriotic anti-health care supporter will be charged with trying to choke the Obamie minion.

The okra continues to grow. I now have to use a step ladder to pick them. They should produce for another month and I plan on freezing five or six more meals. I have read where the seeds can be dried and crushed and used as coffee.

Our fascination with Obama continues. He is continually described as FDR by members of the Left who then demand that he govern as FDR. It doesn’t seem to come to them that the rest of the country figured out he is a Jimmy not a Franklin and that there are too many information sources for him to rule by speeches.

But he will try.

  1. It also took 6 months for my brother to return. He had been gone 5 years. He told us that, without the States, the War would have been lost. He said that when the Yanks arrived, they were like "blood tranfusions to a dying body. England was revived."

I was just a kid. He was my only brother, 12 years older. Thank you for what you did. He went back to law school. He also stayed in the Reserve. He thought that we would have to fight Russia one day. "Si vis pacem para bellum. If you want peace, be ready for war."

While managing his law office, he became the Colonel of his Regiment. He died in 1981 before Reagan got the Berlin Wall torn down. He would have been very relieved. And he probably would have said: The Yanks, again!

Congratulations for your garden. It's doing well. If only your country would have able hands like yours to sow and care. Ah! well. There's been problems before, and the Yanks did what needed to be done. That's what my brother would tell me...Not to worry. Your country will survive.

  2. As always you are very kind.

I think everyone should have a garden. All Kings and Presidents especially since they mostly need a dose of humblepie and a eating fried okra that started in your own hand as tiny seed would be a good for them.

  3. I'm not kind, only truthful! My brother was Agent de Liaison between the Canadians and the Americans. He talked a lot about the cheerfulness, the energy and the know-how of the American soldiers. And the incredible equipment! I guess, with all the occupied countries in Europe, England must have felt so isolated and impoverished until you arrived on the scene.

I cannot have an outside garden but I have a long planter in my solarium filled with herbs. It makes me feel good to use my own herbs. I also have a huge green plant. I got it for Mother's Day 3 years ago. I don't have much sun but it keeps growing. It's the third time I change the container. I don't know the name. It has 3different types of leaves.

As for your thought...Well, Prince Charles is an organic gardener. I don't know if it's making him humble....One never knows, of course!

  4. I think we know!

Besides. There is a difference betweem raising a garden and being a "gardener."
