Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Thursday blamed the global economic crisis on “white people with blue eyes” and said it was wrong that black and indigenous people should pay for white people’s mistakes.
Speaking in Brasília at a joint press conference with Gordon Brown, the UK prime minister, Mr Lula da Silva told reporters: “This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing.”
I think he has a point. Consider the following.
Why did we take extraordinary pains to reduce collateral damage in Iraq? We could have just bombed Baghdad into oblivion, sent in enough troops to take the oil fields, secured them, helped ourselves with whatever dictator we decided to install in the new state of OilAmericaArabia and lived happily ever after.
I doubt we would have lost 50 men and by pumping and selling oil at $30 a barrel we would have saved the world from the theocrats in the ME and their other helpers in OPEC by destroying THEIR economy and maybe, just maybe, letting a democratic government come into being.
Can you imagine a world with 90 cents gasoline??
No doubt about it. We enabled Hugo and his pals in South America and other places.
