Everybody wants to talk.

So I was talking to this guy and he said, "I don't think Obama is weak. I think he is just trying to talk rather than fight."
"Okay," I said, "what makes you think the terrorists want to talk?"
"Everybody," he opined with a sad look on his face, "had rather talk than fight."
"Everybody?"
"Everybody."
"Did the Japanese want to talk?
"Well, everybody knows that war was about Japan wanting raw materials. If we had just cut them a deal they wouldn't have attacked."
"So they didn't want to talk. They wanted what they wanted when they wanted it."
"You're being a snit."
"No, I am disagreeing with you."
"Well, you know what I mean."
"No, I don't. BTW - the EU has been talking to Iran for years and years and gotten no place. What happens when they get a nuke?"
"Ah," he said with the smile of a poker playing turning over the nut hand, "we are the only country that has ever used one."
"So you think we should have lost a hundred thousand lives invading Japan?"
"That has nothing to do with the fact that we dropped the bombs."
"Okay, I'll put you down for giving up a hundred thousand US military lives."
"You"re being a snit again."
"No, I am being factual."
"You can't prove that."
"Okay, only 93,789 lives."
"You're being a snit again."
"Tell me again why Hussein isn't weak."
"Please don't call him Hussein."
"Why? He used it during the swearing in ceremony."
"So?"
"If it was good enough for him and the head shead of the SC, it is good enough for me."
"You're being a snit again."
"So you still say everybody wants to talk."
"Yes."
"Do you remember Peter Arnett?"
"Vaguely..."
"Worked for CNN?"
"Oh yeah..."
"Would you say he was a war mongering right winger?"
"No, but what's your point?"
"I have one."
"You've been reading Newsmax."
"Well, I do, but this is not about Newsmax."
"Coulter?"
"No."
"And your point is?"
"Are you aware in March of 1997 Arnett interviewed bin Ladin?"
"No."
"Well he did. And one of his questions was if the US left the Arabian Peninsula would that stop the fighting."
"So?"
"Well, bin Ladin's answer was no. He also said that Muslim actions throughout the world must not be interfered with."
"You got some proof?"
"I'll send you a link."
"Well that doesn't mean they don't want to talk."
"You mean they want to talk while doing what they want to."
"You're being a snit again."
