If you want a clearer look

at why the CIA was not capable of identifying the threats from al-Qaeda and other ME groups, this article is fantastic.

  1. Reading Mr. Schoenfeld's article reminds me of John le Carré's books. Mr.Smiley is sorely needed.

When 9/11 happened, my first thought, thru the horror of it all, was: "USA slept". My second thought: "Clinton let USA sleep."

Amazing that an agency can't get rid of a dangerous body (Scheur) because it's safer to keep him in than kick him out. Puzzling world...

Mr.Smiley:"We've given up far too many freedoms in order to be free. Now we've got to take them back." (The Secret Pilgrim: John le Carré)

  2. I love Le Carree's Smiley, and have copies of all his books, although they have become less enjoyable as he has become more and more negative. What was a joy has beconme a chore. I sometimes think he has stayed too long.

As to losing "freedoms," the only freedoms that I see us as having lost is to the politically correct crowd of the Left. Most of these can be taken back by simply ignoring them, such as calling Hussein, Hussein.
