Rodney King day!

Can't we all just get a long?

1991 – An amateur video captures the beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police officers AFTER he’d led them on a 100 MPH car chase because he didn’t want to get a DUI which would have vacated his parole for his prior robbery conviction.

Got the above from MostlyCajun as a "Today in History snippet."

And not only had Rodney led them on a very dangerous 100 mph car chase, he wouldn't follow orders and kept getting up after being told to lay down. In my world that is resisting arrest.

The police were charged by the state and tried but acquitted. I flew into LAX during the early evening of the day the police were acquitted. The resulting riots were unbelievable. The fires and smoke were visible for miles and my UAL flight used a "ground fire avoidance" approach to do just that, avoid ground fire from the rioters.

The police were later retried by the Feds for "violation of Rodney's civil rights." Of course they were convicted in a clear violation of our double jeopardy laws. I think this was Clinton's DOJ so Obamie isn't the only crook we have had in charge.

BTW, this was the same jury pool that let O.J. Simpson get away with murder.

I don't know where King is now. He has had numerous problems since then and I read somewhere he had wound up back in jail.

We have consensus

The Institute of Physics, which represents 36,000 physicists across Britain and the world, has told a Commons inquiry into Climategate that the controversial emails at the centre of the storm represent "prima facie evidence of determined and co-ordinated refusals to comply with honourable scientific traditions".

In short, the IoP has called into question the integrity of the entire field of climate change.

The Commons science and technology committee is interviewing key climate scientists and global warming sceptics. The standard of the interrogation on the first day was tame and the protagonists merely restated their arguments.

In the absence of actual recorded temperatures, scientists have used 'proxy data' – for example, tree rings – to determine average global temperatures over the past 1,000 years. However, in the final few decades of the 20th century, the proxy data has been jettisoned in favour of temperatures recorded on modern instruments. The IoP is critical of this method:

"The [Climategate] emails reveal doubts as to the reliability of some of the reconstructions," the IoP states. "For example, the apparent suppression, in graphics widely used by the IPCC [the United Nations climate panel], of proxy results for recent decades that do not agree with contemporary instrumental temperature measurements."

The IoP also suggests the scope of the Common inquiry should be broadened to include not only the CRU, but also the entire field of climate science.

"Most of the e-mails were exchanged with researchers in a number of other leading institutions involved in the formulation of the IPCC's conclusions on climate change," the submission reads. "In so far as those scientists were complicit in the alleged scientific malpractices, there is [a] need for a wider inquiry into the integrity of the scientific process in this field."

I really don't know what else to say. They have been caught lying. Pure. Flat. And Simple.

And they should be read out of the scientific community and never allowed back in.

What if?

I’m reading “Warlord,” Carlo D’Este’s biography of Churchill from birth to 1945.

Fascinating book and it brings out the “What if…..?” in me.

Little known fact. There were over 180,000 English, French, and other troops in Russia in 1918 protecting various ports and such. Think what would have happened if the West had intervened on the side of the White Army?

Can you say 50,000,000 or so would not have been killed over the next 50 years?

Then we have the Germans in 1936 taking back the Rhineland as the French sat and watched. All they had to do was push back and the Germans would have left and WWII probably wouldn’t have happened. There’s 15 million or so.

When the Communist Chinese was about to take over the mainland our State Department declared them Agrarian Reformers. If we had supported the Chinese, how many would have lived? 20 million?

Or more? Certainly North Vietnam would not have attacked the South. 15,000,000?

Now, have we learned our lesson?

Nope. Iran keeps working on its nukes and we keep hoping.

Problem is, you can’t pet a snake.

And hope is between hell and horror in the dictionary.

Commentator's Comment Award for 3-1-10

I know it is the first of the month but this comment by smileyface has set a standard for dumbness that may carry it through the rest of the year.

Note the bigotry, the self righteousness, the sheer ignorance.

First Baptists Set Fire To East Texas Churches

posted at 3/1/2010 7:08 AM CST

Texans like to promote ignorance. Their Texas state school board is in the process of rewriting their public schools history books to reflect the majority of the school board'sviews on christian fundamentalism and promote the Republican Party.

Great statesmen such as Newt Gengrich will take center stage. Any mention of the invisible gods in writings before the USA was established will have prominence. The US Constitution will take a back seat.

Christian Fundamentalists are often mentioned as the Christian Taliban. They are more dangerous to this country than any known terrorist organization.

But it's not only Texans. All across this country the Fundies are constantly making inroads into all government agencies with the aim of controlling society with total disregard of the Constitution and disregarding the history of governments controlled by fundamentalist religions.

So if anyone wants to see more violence, more unnecessary wars more disruption of our public schools, the dumbing down of our future generations, just keep voting for and supporting the Fundamentalists.

Rigtht Wing Israelis kill terrorist...and we're better off

The following was sent to me by Larry P who noted that it is from the on line edition of the "Daily Express" but I don't have a link.

WHY CAN'T THIS COUNTRY FOLLOW ISRAEL'S LEAD?
Friday February 19,2010
By Chris Roycroft-Davis

EXCUSE me for not sending flowers to the funeral of the terrorist the Israelis bumped off in Dubai. Unlike the bleeding hearts in the liberal media I’m not shedding any tears.

As military chief of terrorist group Hamas, Mahmoud al Mabhouh had the blood of many Israeli soldiers and civilians on his hands. He was in charge of smuggling rockets and grenades into the Gaza Strip so his murderous gangs could lob them into Israel.

He could hardly complain when a hit squad from Mossad, the Israeli security service, brought his life to a swift end. To say he had it coming is an understatement.

So why such a fuss about his execution? Why has the Foreign office twisted the arm of the Israeli ambassador? And possibly the most crucial question of all: whose side are we on, the terrorists or those with the courage to stand up to them?

The Israelis don’t mess about, they don’t sit back and take it. You kill one of them and they will kill you. And afterwards they won’t explain, they won’t apologise, they won’t even deny it.

WORLD opinion means nothing – what ever London, Washington or Damascus may say the Israelis are convinced that they are right. An eye for an eye is the most basic concept of natural justice, dating back 4,000 years to Babylonian times and is promoted three times in the old Testament. Even in the New Testament Jesus says: Those who take up the sword shall die by the sword.

Did Mahmoud al-Mabhouh reflect on that as he checked in to room 230 at his posh hotel in Dubai? He was the man behind the kidnapping and killing of two Israel soldiers 21 years ago; he had been smuggling arms into the Gaza Strip; he was believed to be in Dubai to buy more weapons from an Iranian dealer. If Mossad agents came to call they were hardly there to inquire after his health.

Unlike Britain, Israel doesn’t tolerate an enemy within. It doesn’t give those who hate them free housing and welfare handouts. It doesn’t let the right of free speech enable them to preach murder on its streets.

Retribution is a vital part of Israel’s psyche. After the Second World War the Israelis spent half a century tracking down evil Nazis. When Israeli athletes were murdered at the 1972 Olympics their Palestinian killers were hunted around the world and eliminated: one by a bomb in his bed, another by a booby-trapped phone.

Who can forget the electrifying raid on Entebbe in 1976 when Israeli special forces stormed a hijacked airliner, killed the terrorists and freed all but three of the hostages? It was a salutary lesson to the world.

You’d think that Britain of all countries would understand the need to pull no punches with those who have sworn to be your enemies. That’s what the SAS did in Northern Ireland for more than 30 years, taking out IRA members before they could perpetrate further outrages. It is what our special forces did in Iraq and are doubtless doing in Afghanistan.

It is what the SAS should be doing today in Somalia, where British yacht couple Paul and Rachel Chandler are being held by pirates. Can you imagine the Israelis allowing two of their people to suffer so long in some fly-blown African hellhole?

Israel has no reason to be ashamed of its actions. As Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman points out: “our security activity is conducted according to the very clear, very cautious and responsible rules of the game.” rule No 1 of course in any security activity is kill or be killed.

Where Britain has a right to be upset, however, is the way the Israelis have carried out ID theft on the passports of six of our citizens. It’s not the first time they’ve done it and last time they promised they wouldn’t do it again.

One Foreign office source says Britain could cut ties with Mossad if the Israelis have been “found to be acting against British interests”. You might think executing the would terrorist might be precisely in our interests but the career diplomats take a loftier view.

Gordon Brown says Israel has questions to answer about nicking our passports but the implication is that Britain wouldn’t be in the least bit put out if the Israeli hit squad had used fake documents from Libya, Japan, Peru – in fact anywhere other than Britain.

BROWN even has the cheek to spout that “a British passport is an important part of being British”. This from a Prime Minister whose policy was to welcome millions of immigrants so he could socially engineer the country to be less British and more likely to vote Labour.

We should take no lessons either from the BBC, which for too long refused to call Hamas suicide bombers “terrorists” and hid behind weasel words like “radicals” and “militants”. Its anti-Israel bias is clear today when BBC News pontificates that Israel “may have scored a costly own goal” by using British identities for what it calls “nefarious activities”.

Make no mistake, I think a British passport is the most valuable document in the world and I don’t like it being used to gain illegal entry to another country. But my top priority will always be security and the world is undoubtedly more secure now Hamas has lost another murderer from its ranks.

Full body scan solution

I have known my friend Bill T for over 40 years and I can testify to his ability to find unique and cost effective solutions to problems. I still remember his alternative method for boring holes in wooden floors.

He sent me the following. I shall call my elected officials Monday.

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports.

Have a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you.

It would be a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this crap about racial profiling and this method would eliminate a long and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift. Case Closed!

This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: you're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes
over the PA system:

"Attention standby passengers we now have a seat available on flight number..."
