The difference between Iran and Australia

But let us conclude on a lighter note. A jolly Australian lady friend used this topic to explain to me the difference between Iran and Australia: “In Iran, you fornicate and then you get stoned. In Australia, you first get stoned and then you fornicate.”

Some history on stoning.

Say Goodnight Jay! And other bad dreams..

Jay Leno stepped away from the "Tonight Show" last night after 17 or so years.

I confess that I didn't watch him leave. In fact I was unaware he was, not having watched him in probably 9 years or so. I never was a huge fan of late night shows. In my much younger days I was often busy doing other things, traveling or just falling into bed too tired to be amused. Plus if Armed Forces TV existed I don't remember.

I did watch some Jack Parr, but missed his last show. Parr never did anything after that and I have often used his departure as a prime example of why we should never do things in a snit. Roman Emperors had a slave whose job was to whisper into their ear, "Remember you are not a God!" Sage advice to all whose power comes from others.

I became a fan of Johnny Carson because the show was uniformly good and I recognized that it was good because of him. And the humor was adult but not vulgar. Plus, much of the humor required the audience to have a basic education. Bob Newhart had a bit in which the punch line was a submarine navigator advising the Captain they would surface off the coast of New York..... or Rio de Janeiro. If you don't know geography that line doesn't work. Comedy was dumbed down to serve a dumbed down audience.

I have never understood why it became funny to toss out a few F bombs and body part references. I never felt compelled to shut them up. I just couldn't understand, although I think much of it was a desire to shock Mommy and Daddy by listening and laughing. And yes, some of the new comedians were funny, but would have been so without the vulgarities.

So, over time Jay became less funny not because he was vulgar, although the show hit that mark a few times, but because what he and the audience found funny I did not.

There were more sports shows, more home improvement, more Channel news, more everything. If Jay bored, the clicker was handy and the Internet sealed the deal. Besides, along with instant communications came continual questions and the job became 24/7.

So the market fragmented. Early on I remember hearing one of the cable founders....Tom??? (senior moment)... say that the limitation of wiring the home wasn't technology but lack of content. He was right. Having 200 channels, all bad, has put a crimp in how much people will spend for TV. IPTV may move the pile a bit, but that is still in the future.

I opine that TV has more choices, most terrible, but fewer viewers, as a percentage of population, than when everyone watched Ed Sullivan. The result is a more fragmented society with a much smaller core of stability.

And as we continue to have more choices the trend will continue.

And as more people pay fewer taxes and as fewer people pay more taxes the resentment will grow in the payers.

It is not logical to think that we can say that our goal is Equal Rights, elect a Black President and then have him nominate a judge for the SC who claims that her seeing things as a Latino and a female is a grand qualification.

It is not logical to claim we want diversity and then write laws to shut people up who say hateful things.

It is not logical for some of us to claim they support the troops while damning our wars.

It is not logical to claim that we are patriots when we not only do not join our military but vehemently oppose being drafted and trained to fight if necessary.

It is not logical for us to have a military that is volunteer and professional and think that it will not, at some point, decide that it will have a large say in who their leader is.

Bad dreams are made of this.

Dallas Home Owners Association bans Marine Corp emblems

I have never been big on declaring “never.” I mean it only took me a hundred or so “never” to quit smoking and I did vote for Jimmy Carter after declaring to never vote for a Leftie again. So my batting average on “never” isn’t the greatest. In fact, it took me two “never” on buying a home in a neighborhood with a Home Owners Association.

The first happened in Seattle. I was summoned home by my spouse to find a guy wearing Rockport shoes and driving an itty bitty pick up with a “Save the Whales” sticker on the back bumper standing resolutely in front of the D4 Cat owned and operated by the guy who I had hired to finish off rough landscaping in my backyard. By rough I mean leveling, pushing some rocks around to where I wanted them and burying a huge stump and other tree trash… But I digress.

“Where’s your permit?” he demanded.

“Start your machine,” I told the Cat driver. “Since I am within the greenbelt I don’t need one.”

That seemed to satisfy the Cat driver. He cranked it up and after a few seconds the HOA Nazi stepped aside. We had further conversations at that time, and indeed we exchanged some registered letters. The upshot of it all was that I was correct, but the board was appalled that I hadn’t came to them for discussions and their approval, thus eliminating all the confusion.

That I wasn’t confused seemed to be of interest only to me.

In our next transfer and purchase I had no problems with the board, but attending a few board meetings soon showed me that my Seattle dude had all kinds of relatives in my new neighborhood. Fortunately we had a board that shut the nuts down with firm applications of common sense. But that was enough to make “never” stick when I purchased the palatial retirement compound.

And my guess is that this HOA board in Dallas will shut this down, probably in a special meeting this weekend.

DALLAS - Frank Larison is a disabled veteran with more than 14 years of service, including more than a year of combat duty in Vietnam.

The 58-year-old former Marine now finds himself under attack by his Dallas homeowners association for displaying seven decals on his vehicle supporting the Marine Corps.

"To me, it's being patriotic, and it shows that I served," the veteran told FOX 4.
The board says the decals are advertisements that violate HOA rules, and must be covered or removed.

One board member said he was unaware the HOA presidents sent the letter and did not know of any issue with Larimore's vehicle.

"I will be looking into it," said board member Art Bradford. "I didn't know anything about this. I haven't seen this."

The board president was out of town and unavailable. The condo management company did not want to comment.

In the video (see link) Bradford looks embarrassed. And he should be. Especially since the video shows all sorts of vehicles with stickers that actually are advertisements.

Anybody want to bet that the person complaining isn't anti-military????

Obama has become Obamie

A lion?

A mouse?

Several people have commented on me calling Obama, Obamie. By and large these are Lefties, the same ones who objected to me calling Hussein, Hussein. At that time I explained that I did so because it was his middle name and that when we started letting politicians tell us what we can call them we were in deep doo-doo.

I thought it obvious that I also disliked his politics but in case you missed it I despise his politics. There now. I hope all his plans fail.

But I call him Obamie for a reason, not that I need one. And before I tell you what it is I will note that nicknames for American Presidents is an old and treasured tradition. From Ike to Tricky Dick to the Cowboy to Bubba to W (and a host of others) we have honored our supposed leaders with a sneer and a one finger salute. And they have been the better for it. We got rid of Kings and such and until now, I thought the deal permanent. But watching the minions of Obamie I must say I am concerned.

Now, why do I call Obamie, Obamie? Because it is a diminutive expression. And I am convinced that he deserves it. He has spent a lifetime having things given to him and the result is a spoiled brat who angers easily yet when faced with real power bends his back and kisses the ring.

The Germans have now rung in with Die Maus. The Mouse. They too have taken his measure and given him a name that fits.

A friend asked me what I thought North Korea would do, not because he thinks I would know more than he, but for conversation. The answer of course, is simple.

North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and all our use to be allies and enemies will do as they please. Nobody pays attention to an Obamie.

Obama's reflections

Well, I watched Obamie this morning announcing that after deep reflections he had decided to nominate a racist for the SC.

You know, this guy is always reflecting. I mean he has the exact angle of holding his head so that the reflection will let him reach that exact spot that's hard to shave... I mention this to be sure you don't think that I think you think that I think reflecting isn't serious business.... But based on the results, I sure wish he would shoot from the hip...

And it will be interesting to see who in the Repub world has guts enough to condemn this person who obviously doesn't believe in the Constitution. I hope I'm wrong but after watching them roll over for the past three months I am not encouraged. Of course I am sure the Repub who voted for Obamie, aka Powell, will in the lead position telling us we should be more inclusive....

Now that is an interesting word... "inclusive." I have a question, dear chums. If I was a Repub and had to change for you to come to my party... Why in the hell would I want you???

And just in case the Repub Party leadership happens to read this... (Fat chance you say, but with Google you never know!)...... Reagan didn't win by being "inclusive." He won by offering a different vision, a different future, a different strategy...

Grow a set dear Repub leaders.... You might even win with'em... And you damn sure will lose without them!

GOP contributors targeted in Chrysler shutdown.

UPDATE - The claim now is that since most of those shut down contributed to Repubs, then the majority of those shut down contributed to Repubs. (If we had some ham we would have some ham and eggs if we had some eggs.)

This was brought to my attention by the Dark Avenger and a host of other sources...

Maybe someone will take the list of all dealers and compare the shut down list to the total of all dealers, with their contributions... and then we will have something. Or maybe no one will, or maybe they have...

Why am I not surprised?

A tipster alerted me to an interesting assertion. A cursory review by that person showed that many of the Chrysler dealers on the closing list were heavy Republican donors.

To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn't an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.

This is torture

Over the past weeks we have been involved in a debate as to what Lyin' Nancy Pelosi knew about the EIT of captured terrorists. That she did and lied like a trooper is amusing but in all fairness what she knew about wasn't torture.

This is torture.

The leader of Moslems, some perfect example of a Moslem named Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and his worshipers took almost a minute using a dull knife to saw off the head of Nick while he screamed and they shouted that God is Great! His screams bubbled through blood squirting from his carotid arteries. He managed to scream for his life 9 times in about 30 seconds before they destroyed his vocal cords with the dull knife. This great leader of Moslems took delight in it. No Moslems in America demonstrated in front of the White House or anywhere else or made threats to retaliate against the perps who did this and that makes me think they approve of it.

Obama's Birth Certificate

Bump and up date.... The Dark Avenger has thoughtfully played secretary, again... He is as dependable as Pavlov's Dog on such yet his logic is so poor that I have decided to follow some sage advice that says don't argue with an idiot because others may not be able to tell the difference.

I will leave by noting that if he could squash his enemies by proving them wrong Obamie would do so in a heart beat!

One of our many West Coast correspondents, the original Dark Avenger (or maybe it's Weeder Gander) has graced us with the following in regards to the lack of information available about The One's proof of US citizenship. (We know he is not fit to be Prez so this is merely a formality.)

The following from the Washington Monthly is DA's learned comment. I am struck by his originality.

The electoral system has failed to satisfy lingering questions about Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as president.

The press has failed to satisfy those questions. The courts have failed to satisfy those questions. The Congress has failed to satisfy those questions.

But the people are still asking.

That's how Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND, explains the petition he initiated several months ago that has collected nearly 400,000 names of Americans demanding answers as to Obama's elidibility [sic] as well as the outpouring of financial support for his new campaign to erect billboards around the country asking the simple question: "Where's the birth certificate?"

In just five days, the billboard campaign has been backed by about $45,000 in donations.

Obviously, the Birthers' argument is nuts. But the fact that they're still at it, seven months after the election, is extraordinary.

For Democrats, it's extraordinarily helpful, in large part because it makes the president's detractors appear insane. Former Clinton White House press secretary Jake Siewert said a few months ago, "At some level, they're not that bad to have around because it reminds people that under the mainstream conservative press there's this bubbling up of really irrational hatred for the guy."

But that's just among those who hear about this. As DougJ noted, there's the inconvenient fact that most Americans will see a billboard that reads, "Where's the birth certificate?" and won't have the foggiest idea what that means.

That the right-wing website claims to have raised "about $45,000 in donations" is especially great for Democrats, since that means $45,000 from far-right donors that won't go to something that might actually matter.

For the left in general, it's a win-win: unhinged conservatives waste their time on a silly exercise, devoting time and money to a campaign that only makes the right look even more wacky. The DNC ought to send WND a thank-you note.

I have always regarded the Obamie administration as watching "The Beverly Hillbillies" without the saving grace of Jeb and Granny's calm wisdom and the eye candy of Ellie Mae. The buffoonish antics of Jeffro serve to remind us that we have a President who has given away trillions and then announces sadly that we are "out of money."

As the kids say... "Well, duhhhhhhh."

Yet through all of this a few simple facts shine through.

Obamie is as partisan as any President in the history of the country. He cannot stand criticism, as he just demonstrated time and again. The far Right has pushed the birth certificate issue to the center of the stage and kept it there.

All he has to do to make them look foolish and shut them up is have Hawaii release the original...........That he does not says more than anyone else can say.

Pelosi Stonewalls Press

The press supposedly was poised to flay Lyin' Nancy alive in her weekly news conference today. But after she informed them that she would not answer questions about what she knew and when she knew it regarding her claim that he CIA lied they collectively tucked their tails and jumped back into the Democrat tank... At the very least they could have turned and walked out. No politic an can stand being ignored..

So it is obvious her strategy is to allow her minions to reframe the story with a series of "I don't remember..." and arguments over dates, all the time ignoring that it is Obamie and his CIA main man who they are insulting. Outside of a snap back from Panetta it appears that Obamie is going along and will try and let the story die. In the end he needs Pelosi more than she needs him.

But the problem is that there is too much out there. And the press, if they cared enough to get off their collective rear ends have the story in Pelosi's own words. Follow me on this.

ABC News broke this story on 12/10/2007. That's 17 months and 11 days ago. Now. Remember that date.

A leader of the CIA team that captured the first major al Qaeda figure, Abu Zubaydah, says subjecting him to waterboarding was torture but necessary.

In the first public comment by any CIA officer involved in handling high-value al Qaeda targets, John Kiriakou, now retired, said the technique broke Zubaydah in less than 35 seconds.

ABC News Link

Pelosi herself acknowledged in a December 2007 statement that she was aware that Harman had learned of the waterboarding and had objected in a letter to the CIA's top counsel.

"It was my understanding at that time that Congresswoman Harman filed a letter in early 2003 to the CIA to protest the use of such techniques, a protest with which I concurred," Pelosi said in the Dec. 9, 2007, statement.

Washington Post Link

Major investigative reports, such as ABC's above, are completed days in advance. So there is no doubt that Pelosi would have been asked about it. So what did they do?? They issued a mea culpa one day in advance of the ABC story. By doing so they could say, "See our press release yesterday." This is a standard "get out in front" move.

And in it she admits that she was aware that Harman had learned of EIT and had written a letter to the CIA, "...a protest with which I concurred." That is past tense. So she admits she knew because how else could she have "concurred?"

"I didn't know but I concurred?" I repeat. You cannot concur (agree) with something you don't know. It isn't possible. (Excuse me while I giggle.)

Now, what further evidence do we have, besides her own words, that she knew?

In December 2007 the Washington Post reported that leaders of the House and Senate intelligence committees had been briefed in the fall of 2002 about waterboarding -- which simulates drowning -- and other techniques, and that no congressional leaders protested its use.

Washington Post Link

In fact, she didn't deny she knew. She admitted she was aware that Harman had written a letter re EIT use and concurred with Harman's letter.

Now, let's dig a little deeper into this and see how she would have known, and why she had no choice but to admit it, at that time.

But there’s no dispute that on Feb. 4, 2003 — five months after Pelosi’s September meeting — CIA officials briefed Pelosi aide Michael Sheehy and Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), then the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, on the specific techniques that had been used on Zubaydah — including waterboarding.

Politico Link

So now we have followed the cat home, and as my Mom always told me, no matter how long the "tail" it always follows the cat home.

In December 2007 it was a major story but no one connected the dots, if indeed they even knew that Harman and a Pelosi aid was briefed almost five years before. It wasn't until Pelosi and her Leftie friends decided to attack the lawyers who did the legal work on EIT that interest was rekindled. And when Obamie, at first, wouldn't definitively say his justice department wouldn't prosecute all concerned, the story got big and suddenly dates, times and lies became important.

Pelosi has done what so many politicians do. She has made the rope, she has tied the knot and she has hung herself. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Now she stonewalls. That got her by today. I don't think it will in the future. Taking down Nixon was great fun. Baiting Bush was almost as much. Speakers of the House aren't in the same group, but they'll do for a warm up.

(I wrote a portion of this in a Tennessean comment.)

Home, home on the green

Read the article... my pithy remarks are noted:

Troy -- It was supposed to be a shining example of the green movement -- a completely independent solar-powered house with no gas or electrical hookups.

Seven months ago, officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the $900,000 house owned by the city of Troy that was to be used as an educational tool and meeting spot.

But it never opened to the public. And it remains closed.

Frozen pipes during the winter caused $16,000 in damage to floors, and city officials aren't sure when the house at the Troy Community Center will open.

"It's not safe right now, and there's no estimated opening time because it depends on when we can get funding," said Carol Anderson, director of the city's Parks and Recreation Department.

That surprised the Oakland County Planning and Economic Development Department, which advertised tours of the house for its Tuesday Oakland County Green Summit.

"No, I didn't know anything about it," said Steve Huber, spokesman for county planning.

Bret Rasegnan, planning supervisor for the department, said the solar tours have been removed from the finalized agenda for the summit.

"It is disappointing that we can't tour, but the summit will still be of great value. I don't think it's reflective of the technology."

Lawrence Technological University, with help from DTE, mostly paid for the building. Its students built the 800-square-foot home, which was supposed to be livable year-round, free from the grid and churn out enough solar power to support a home-based business and electric vehicle.

Uh, guys. Do you realize that this 800 sq ft house comes in at $1125.00 per sq ft? I mean even in Obamie world, don't you think that is a bit much?

So what caused the flood?

The city says it was a mechanical problem. University officials heard it differently.

Jeff Biegler, superintendent of parks for the city, said the flooding occurred from a glitch in the heater.

"The system was designed to kick a heater on to keep water from freezing," Biegler said. "The heater drew all reserve power out of the battery causing the system to back down and the pipes froze."

Joe Veryser, an associate dean of architecture at the university, said he heard otherwise.

"What I heard repeatedly was that somebody turned off the breaker during the winter and forgot to turn it back on, which caused the pipes to freeze and then break."

You know, for $900,000 you should be able to install a battery with enough reserve to not deplete its charge. And if that isn't what happened then for $900,000 the design team should have enough fail safe systems designed in that some dumb ass can't pop a breaker and walk off.

And did I mention that the price seems well, a bit high??

I bring all this up only to point out that these are the type of things that happen when you let Government design homes, or anything else... And as the man said, "You aint seen anything yet!"

And as someone who spent some time in Moscow back in the late 60's and saw the results there close up, the man is right.

When it comes to green, "You aint seen nothing yet!"

In 2005, Hitler’s autobiography Mein Kampf was among the top bestsellers in Turkey, behind a book about a Turkish national hero detonating a nuclear bomb in Washington D.C

Link

And Turkey is a "moderate" Muslim country!

That pretty well sums it up, eh? These folks are not our friends and all Obamie's apologizing and pandering is doing is pumping the radicals up to attack us. If you look weak, they will assume you are weak.

Despotism comes quite natural to Islamic culture. When confronted with the European tradition, many Muslims freely prefer Adolf Hitler to Rembrandt, Michelangelo or Beethoven. Westerners don’t force them to study Mein Kampf more passionately than Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa or Goethe’s Faust; they choose to do so themselves. Millions of (non-Muslim) Asians now study Mozart’s piano pieces. Muslims, on the other hand, like Mr. Hitler more, although he represents one of the most evil ideologies that have ever existed in Europe. The fact that they usually like the Austrian Mr. Hitler more than the Austrian Mr. Mozart speaks volumes about their culture. Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and Middle Eastern Muslims have been confronted with the same body of ideas, yet choose to appropriate radically different elements from it, based upon what is compatible with their own culture.

The airport to nowhere...Johnstown, PA

The Federal Aviation Administration, after reviewing concerns about a project at a regional airport named after Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), has decided to go forward with plans to use $800,000 in stimulus funds to repave the airport's alternate runway......

The Washington Post reported last month on more than $150 million in federal funds that Murtha directed to the airport, which has six arriving and departing flights per day. Among the improvements, Murtha directed the Pentagon to give the airport a new, $8 million, state-of-the-art radar tower that has not been used since it was built in 2004, and $30 million for a new runway and tarmac so the airport could handle large military planes and become an emergency military base in case of crisis.

Voelker said the runway is "critical" to Johnstown aircraft because the mountaintop airport is battered by strong winds and needs an alternate landing option for crosswinds.

They have one. It is called Pittsburgh International and it is only 71 miles away.

Watch it closely. See the vitriol and the elitist laughter as she claims that Limbaugh is unpatriotic and must have been the 20th highjacker... Watch Obamie smile, not having the decency to frown his displeasure over such divisive and hate filled speech.

Long ago I learned from my Father that you can tell more about a person by what they think is funny than what they ever will tell you. These people cannot tolerate opposition and criticism. Competition is bad, no matter how great freedom and competition has made us. This is a group of people that hate America and their leader is Obamie and he is most pleased to be there.

At a time when most administrations are trying to develop consensus Obamie is pissing on our shoes. He feels secure in the warm glow of the social journalists who no longer report for fear of being pushed away from the Greatness.

There will come a time in which the country will wake up. The Left will get what they have given and the media will cry that we must listen to them and not practice partisanship. I have a simple statement I hope to live long enough to use. It starts with an F and ends with a u.

Pelosi proves that she is a liar about EIT

All the Lefties are in a twitter trying to protect their heroine, Nancy P of the "I will save the world clan!" (While getting rich on investments she can control the out come of as Speaker of the House... but I digress.)

In truth she has admitted that she knew what the CIA was doing, and thus proved that she has been lying. Let's look first at what the CIA memo says.

The memo, issued by the Director of National Intelligence and the Central Intelligence Agency to Capitol Hill, notes the Pelosi-Goss briefing covered "EITs including the use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah."

Now, Pelosi has admitted to that.

"As this document shows, the Speaker was briefed only once, in September 2002. The briefers described these techniques, said they were legal, but said that waterboarding had not yet been used," said Brendan Daly, Pelosi's spokesman.

Now, all of the EIT’s have been held to be torture. I happen to disagree with that, but Pelosi does not.

And then this fact. The waterboarding of Abu Zubaydah has been know since 12/10/07 when ABC broke the story. So she knew about the techniques in 9/2002 and knew which one had been used and who it had been used on 12/10/2007.

She is a liar. She is a serial liar. Now, if the Left want that kind of person to be third in line to be President, that is their choice.

But they MUST drop all the silly "moral values," "world opinion" and "we must take the high road BS" or just admit to being hypocrites!

Fraud days - I couldn't make this up!

14 EU fonctionnaires investigated for suspected injury benefit fraud have been awarded an extra 3000 euros each from the taxpayer, after it transpired the EU’s fraud watchdog failed to tell the accident-prone civil servants that they were to face criminal proceedings in Italy.

Brussels Journal

And they wonder why many Americans look at Europe and just shake their heads.

Dogs days

And no, I couldn't make this stuff up.
MADISON, Wis., May 5 (UPI) -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison campus said dogs are being brought to the school to help ease the stress of students preparing for final exams. The school said "counseling canines" will be on hand from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday on the Library Mall under the supervision of University Health Services staff, The Capital Times of Madison reported Tuesday.

And the Left can't figure out why political correctness has became a symbol of stupidity. Maybe because the Left is...............?

Life gets tedious- Churchill and stuff

Ducky asks, "How come we get to chose from just two people to run for president but over 50 for Miss America?"

It has rained and stormed for 5 out of the last 6 days. I sure wish that Global Warming would get here....

I think I am suffering from overload. So much to be shocked and outraged about and so little time.

Some good news? Well, maybe funny news. In case you missed it Old Changeable Specter didn't get a lot for his sell out. He is now the JUNIOR Senator, having lost all seniority when he became a Dimicrat.... Specter.... Specter... Spectre.

Bond. James Bond. Shaken not stirred.

Maybe I should show another cat picture, or dog picture....

More funny news? Silicon Valley is all upset at Obamie for changing the way they have been avoiding taxes. Speaking of getting what you deserve..

Preview of what's to come to the US when the hate crime laws are in place?

Michael Savage is barred from going to England because his words provoke....that old free speech gets'm every time.

Some good news?? The market is all the way back to 8500 and the Lefties are crowing like it never fell from 14000 after they took over Congress... and gasoline just cracked $2.00.... The Left never learns.

Feel good stuff... Just rejected a comment from Weeder Gander. Decided to take Ducky's advice...

Serious time? Well, remember last week and Obamie screwed up what Churchill did re terror?? Well, here's a bit more...

PRESIDENT Obama's forays into history, especially Eu ropean history, are interest ing but not always accurate. Who can forget his description during the presidential campaign of African-American GIs liberating Auschwitz? (It was the Russians.) Or his admission during his recent European trip that he didn't know how to translate a certain word into Austrian? (There is no "Austrian"; Austrians speak German.)

His evocation of Winston Churchill in his press conference last Wednesday took confusion to a new height. The president cited the great British prime minister in support of his ban on enhanced interrogation techniques at Gitmo and elsewhere, noting that Churchill never allowed torture of German detainees in World War II "even when London was being bombed to smithereens."

Apparently, Obama got his new, sunny view of Churchill not from reading the Churchill biography that Prime Minster Gordon Brown gave him last month but from Andrew Sullivan's blog. Maybe we should be grateful to Sullivan and Obama for their confusion, however, because Churchill's actual position on what is morally permitted against a nation's enemies illuminates much more about the relationship between torture and civilization than their fictitious version.

Churchill recognized that torture -- the cruel, needless infliction of pain as a means of domination and control of others -- was emblematic of man's barbarism, as opposed to the values of what he called "Christian civilization." It was precisely this barbarism that he saw in the Nazi death camps and the Soviet gulag -- and that we see among the Muslim fanatics who will stone women to death for refusing to wear the veil or behead reporters.

But Churchill also understood that, if barbarism was one enemy of civilization, another was a moral cowardice disguised as moral qualms -- an instinctive flinching in the face of danger, dressed up as "upholding our values."

Churchill had seen this flinching in such 1930s appeasers as Neville Chamberlain, and he feared that he'd see it again among Britons and their leaders after the war.

There is a reason I call Obamie, Obamie. Remember Jackie is the diminutive of Jack.

There is a question that I keep asking the Lefties... If my side is right and your side is wrong, will you accept moral responsibility for all the deaths and injuries?

The silence is so very loud and clear. The poor dears are afraid to be harsh to our enemies and afraid to take what will come if they do not. What a dog's life they lead; pandering to every bit of PC nonsense and denying what their eyes must show them!

Van Gogh's ear had to go

(May 4) - For more than a century, Vincent Van Gogh has been known as the tortured genius who sliced off his own ear in a fit of madness. But a new study claims Paul Gauguin lopped off the organ with a sword as the two artists argued over a prostitute.

If I asked who gives a flip would I be considered grumpy?

A Spanish judge wants to try Bush?

I have a Mpeg player of some type… certainly not an IPOD… but on it I have over 400 songs that I listen to while doing my every other day bit on the treadmill…. I have everything from Glen Miller to the Eagles to Blondie to well… you get the idea. This PM, as I was striding along to “Love Potion No. 9” it dawned on me, about the same time the cop was being kissed on the corner of 34th and Vine, that in 50 short years we have went from “kissing everyone in sight” to Viagra… from “Love Story” to “Sexual Enhancement Clinics”…… from “roll me in designer sheets”.... To ….”size is important.”

I mean color me a romantic fool, but sooner or later you have to talk to each other… or at least that use to be part of the package….

From being the “Defender of the free world” to being insulted by some unknown Spanish judge who thinks his “hasn’t done anything country since the English kicked their ass” has the right to try people in our government for what isn’t torture… Even worse, we have went from government leaders who would have called up the Spanish PM and say, “Are you kidding me?” to a Prez who couldn’t stand up to an angry 14 year with an AG who opines that he will have to comply with requests for information.

You know, the Soviets would have loved to have had a second shot at Spain. Too damn bad we stood between them.

Patton noted that Eisenhower should have turned him loose and he would have kicked the Soviets all the way back to the Arctic Circle. Now I grant you that would have been a chore, but seeing as how we had two extra nukes we didn’t need I think it could have been done.

The Cold War would never have happened and we wouldn’t have had to protect Europe while they pissed in our soup and got fat and lazy, not to mention stupid when it came to history.

Or maybe we should have just pulled back to England and told old Joe, they’re yours and they want socialism. Give’em the full Monty! A few years of putting up with France and Belgium and Spain and Italy and the Balkans….. well, the Soviets would have been begging us to take’em back.

“Look, Joe. We’ll take’em all except Germany. They’re either at your feet or at your throat and frankly we don’t want to put up with them.”

But we didn’t and we spent 50 years changing their nappies and we have wound up with a bunch of socialist Marxist jerks who are letting the Muslim world run over them because they got too interested in lattes and dope and forgot that people get married and have kids… and yeah, most kids are pains in the pautute for the first 20 years or so but then a miracle happens and they turn into people.

So we have a lady from Paris marrying a cousin in Tangiers and the average Muslim family is three or four times the size of the average Catholic family and some asshole in Spain wants to argue because we waterboarded a terrorist who would be happy to cut his head off…

I mean, I am sick and tired of stupid people. A few lines up I chided the Muslims for the arranged cousins marrying. But based on what I see in Europe it must have been going on long before Mohammed showed up demanding money and his rights!

And speaking of Mpegs and music, I have NO Springstein (or Dixie Chocks). If you want o know why:

More than 18,000 fans and friends showed up on Sunday night for a concert at Madison Square Garden honoring Pete Seeger's 90th birthday. USA TODAY was there, too.
The cause: Folk singer/songwriter, political/environmental activist and rock heroes' hero Pete Seeger turned 90 Sunday night, and some of his better-known disciples came out to celebrate.

Could I add something there Ms Gardner? Something that evidently you or your editor at the Nations Newspaper didn’t know?

Seeger was and probably still is, a communist. Now I know such details aren’t important to all the Obamie idiots , but maybe there is still a few people around who think patriotism is important.

So no Brucie music on my Mpeg and if “You Can Call me Speedo” isn’t fast enough then dial the “Heartbreak Hotel.”

Don't you think it is time for a Special Prosecutor?

This is such an abuse of power that it must be challenged.

A leading bankruptcy attorney representing hedge funds and money managers told ABC News Saturday that Steve Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration's Auto Industry Task Force, threatened one of the firms, an investment bank, that if it continued to oppose the administration's Chrysler bankruptcy plan, the White House

Now we know why he wants that Civilain National Security force that is just as powerful, just as strong and just as well funded as the miliatry.

I thought Obama was gonna fix things like this..

The British government has paid nearly $900,000 in legal fees on behalf of three associates of Osama bin Laden who have fended off attempts by the U.S. government to extradite them for a decade, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

The three al-Qaeda suspects were arrested in London shortly after the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people. British authorities pledged to extradite them swiftly to the United States to stand trial for their alleged roles in the attacks.

I mean, don't they know The Messiah has assumed control and that it is okay to have relations with us?????????

Do you think maybe it was the Churchill's bust deal?

I mean it's only been 11 years......

Beheading! It's a cultural thing!

It has happened in England, Canada, and the United States. It was bound to happen in France. An innocent Frenchman was found decapitated in Lyons. This report is from Le Progres, via François Desouche:

A victim atrociously mutilated on the 12th floor. A suspect who lived on the 5th floor. The entire affair is concentrated on #5 of a large complex of residences, 65, rue de Saint-Cyr in Lyons. On Saturday afternoon (April 25), Raymond Arveuf, 62, was found decapitated (note: the head was missing) in his apartment on the top floor of the building by his brother who was concerned that he had not been present at the usual family dinner on Saturday. The night before he had been watching a soccer match with friends in a bar in Valse......

Youcef Djellouli, 29, a neighbor on the 5th floor, whose speech was confused. Taken into custody...(he) did not delay in admitting to the murder. The young man spoke, in substance, of a sudden desire to kill.

To be PC or not PC, that is the question.

And yes, the beheader appears to be slightly off his rocker.... as if that matters to the beheadee...

It is also known as the Jihadist trance...

Fairness doctrine to be brought back

The Federal Communications Commission has announced the roster of a new advisory committee on "diversity" in communications, a move many critics have warned would mark the beginning of government regulation of talk radio and a reinstallation of the "Fairness Doctrine" by another name.

As WND reported, a think tank headed by John Podesta, co-chairman of Obama's transition team, mapped out a strategy in 2007 for clamping down on conservative talk radio by requiring stations to be operated by female and minority owners, which the report showed were statistically more likely to carry liberal political talk shows.

Sharia law in Denmark

No, we can't all just get along!

Close to a fifth of Muslims in Denmark want to see Sharia law implemented in Denmark.A study conducted by analysis institute Capacent for DR news shows that 18% of Muslims in Denmark declare they 'agree' or 'completely agree' with the statement: "Sharia law should be integrated into Danish law".

Link

That would be 20 out of a hundred, chums. And that is a significant number given that Sharia law is at distinct odds with the basic cultural foundations of the west.

You cannot have unlimited immigration into any culture without, eventually, the immigrants taking control. That is usually bad. Ask the Native Americans.

Constipation Cure

Dr. John's Constipation Cure

If you are bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, look in the mirror and repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms occur:

"My financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emmanual, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Al Gore"

If that doesn't scare the s - - t out of you, then you are probably destined to be backed up for the rest of your life.

There is no need to thank me for this advice, I'm just doing a public service.

Dr. John
