Who are we?

I know that I am not as smart as the talking heads on TV or the mealy mouth elected representatives who whine and opine whenever a camera is within ten miles.

But I am growing curious. Curious as to why we are any better than any Central or South American country that has government overthrows as regularly as the flow of the tides and the phases of the Moon.

I mean we are continually told that Impeachment of the President is not a legal thing. That Impeachment is a “political” thing. That the Founders did not mean legal things when they wrote:

“SECTION. 4.
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

If it be true that Impeachment does not require a violation of law, then it follows that anytime the majority party in the House of Representative so desires it can vote to remove the President for no violation other than they dislike him or her.

That the Senate, with august members who love to talk but not act, may or may not convict is of no importance. The damage is done just as damage is done when a revolution fails in those countries we scorn because they are not democracies or republics.

Then what are we? We are hypocrites. Pure flat and simple. Own it.

Brother, can you spare a dime?

TANSTAAFL – “There aint no such thing as a free lunch. “ Robert Heinlein, circa 1952.

I see that Princess Warrenliar has called for free healthcare for all. Various sources have said that will cost 34 trillion over 10 years. Lets break that down.

$34 trillion is $34,000,000,000,000, or stated in powers of 10, that is 34 x10 to the 12th.

Given that the population of the country is 350 million, or 350,000,000 or 3.5 x 10 to the 8th.

Divided that is $9.7 to the 4th or $97,000 or $9,700 per year per person over 10 years.

Given that the government has no money except what they take from the individual, and given that the young, aged and disabled do not earn taxable income, then the number of people paying probably drops 50% to around 175,000. This means that the actual tax payer will owe $19,400 in health care taxes a year.

Since it obvious that the individual cannot pay that then the government will have to pay it by just printing money. That, of course, will just lead to inflation and devaluing the dollar so you will be able to get health care for starvation because your grocery bill be a couple of grand a week.

If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them." - Karl Popper “
