Friends of New Orleans update

This from the Denver Post.

"After months of planning for two dozen parties to fete the 56 delegations to the Democratic National Convention — and facing financial difficulties — the city's host committee is scrapping those parties and holding one big bash.

Friends of New Orleans, a charity formed to help that city recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, is paying for the party, and for a concert with New Orleans-style food at the Fillmore Auditorium afterward for the 6,000 delegates and their guests on Aug. 24, the Sunday before the convention opens."

Guess what?

"Friends of New Orleans, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 organization currently based in Washington, DC. Your contribution to Friends of New Orleans is tax deductible."

So tax deductible contributions that the donors thought were going to rebuild New Orleans is going to be used for a party at the Democratic Convention.

I would think that would be illegal. And if not it is totally outrageous.

Friends of New Orleans

BUMP AND UPDATE

For whatever reason, probably because they realized they had stepped on their peepee, the story has changed.

The party for the 6,000 delegates and their guests on Aug. 24 will honor Friends of New Orleans, a charity formed to help that city recover from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The host committee originally said in a news release that Friends of New Orleans would be hosting the party. That is incorrect, according to the group, which raises funds for non-profit groups in Louisiana. The host committee is paying for the party. After the party, Friends of New Orleans is planning a gathering of its own at Fillmore Auditorium to raise awareness of the rebuilding efforts. The group plans a similar event at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota

So let me understand.

The Friends of New Orleans isn't hosting THAT party, but instead is hosting THIS party. And a similar event will held at the Repubs..... uh huh. Sure.

An why? Why in the hell is a tax payer funded charity throwing a party for anybody???

This is nonsense. Pure and simple. And things like this is why that I quit long ago giving any money to anyone except the church.

Stupid things

Are we doing more stupid things now days or has the Internet just made knowledge of them available for all? I opt for door A. We are doing more stupid things.

And before you read further, I'm going to remind you to dig back through the posts and note that I have posted in support of Gay Rights.

But this is just nonsense.

As the Mariners played the Boston Red Sox on May 26, Sirbrina Guerrero and her date were approached in the third inning by an usher who told them their kissing was inappropriate, Guerrero said.

A ballpark is a public place. Actions of any type that result in making someone else uncomfortable should not happen. Now if this was a smack on the cheek, or a brief lip to lip kiss I would say, so what. But apparently it was plural.

And I would say the same thing if it was a guy and a gal.

Look folks. There are plenty of places to make out. The middle of a major league ball park with 20,000 people looking on isn't one.

The Mother of all suck ups....

From NRO we have this:

RATHER: In the book What Happened, you say the press were “complicit enablers” who “neglected their watchdog role” [and were] “probably too deferential to the White House in the debate over whether or not to go to war.” And you say what you call the “liberal media” — quote-unquote — didn’t live up to its reputation and, quote, “If it had, the country would have been better served.” Give me some examples of why you think that?

McCLELLAN: Well… if you go back and look at that time period, and certainly I think people like Dan Rather were the exception to that rule, I say in the book there were exceptions […]

Uh Scott... Sucking up is bad enough, but when you suck up to someone who can't help you it appears that you just like sucking up....

And BTW - You do remember the fake memo Rather tried to huck?? You know, the one that got him fired?

Ladies Luncheon

And who might these ladies and gentleman be? And who is that in the upper left and corner? Why it is Michelle Obama. The wife of Barack Hussein Obama, candidate for President...

My thanks again to World Net Daily.

Hadn't thought of this, but it makes sense

My thanks to Jimmy M!

The Lawyers Party

The Democrat Party has become the Lawyers Party. Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton are lawyers.

Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama are lawyers. John Edwards, the other former Democrat candidate for president, is a lawyer, and so is his wife, Elizabeth. Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate). Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school. Look at the Democrat Party in Congress: the Majority Leader in each house is a lawyer.

The Republican Party is different. President Bush and Vice President Cheney were not lawyers, but businessmen. The leaders of the Republican Revolution were not lawyers. Newt Gingrich was a history professor; Tom Delay was an exterminator; and, Dick Armey was an economist.

House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer, not a lawyer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon. Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer?

Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976.

The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work.

The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers.

Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich.

The Lawyers Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America . And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers Party, grow.

Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail? Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation.

This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers. Lawyers try to solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people. Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side. Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine.

But it is an awful way to govern a great nation. When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming. Some Americans become 'adverse parties' of our very government. We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit. We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.

Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big. When lawyers use criminal prosecution as a continuation of politics by other means, as happened in the lynching of Scooter Libby and Tom Delay, then the power of lawyers in America is too great. When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.

We cannot expect the Lawyers Party to provide real change, real reform, or real hope in America .

Most Americans know that a republic in which every major government action must be blessed by nine unelected judges is not what Washington intended in 1789. Most Americans grasp that we cannot fight a war when ACLU lawsuits snap at the heels of our defenders. Most Americans intuit that more lawyers and judges will not restore declining moral values or spark the spirit of enterprise in our economy.

Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business. Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse.

I deleted a comment this morning

About muhammed caricaturist, islam critisism, Seppo Lehto and court decision in 30.5.2008

Total prisonery is 2 years + 4 four months + privious 3 months = 2 years 7 months

Muhammed caricaturist
Seppo Lehto Tampere

The comment was in response to this post, which is basically a defense of freedom of speech.

I deleted the comment because of the writer's use of the "n" word. If the writer wants to criticize the law causing Lehto to be imprisoned for what he writes he can do so, and I would agree.

But he has no right, on my blog, to insult an ethnic group that has nothing to do with the issue.

Keep your language clean folks and you are welcome. This is my home.

My Grandson has a hamster

Cute little dickens. He can stare at you intently as if your every thought is of immense importance.... and he can hop on his treadmill and run in circles for hours...

I shall call him "Politician," although his name is Pete.
