Regarding Rangel's "retirement"

President Barack Obama has kept mum on the fate of Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) for days -- but he tells CBS News that it's time for the embattled 80-year-old former Ways and Means Chairman to end his career "with dignity."

The best comments on the Internet often come from Joe and Jane Bloggerpack.

Some of the earlier posters miss the mark - for a long-time Democrat to leave Washington D.C. without going to jail IS ending his career with Dignity (for a Democrat.)

So I said to this guy....

We’ve been cleaning, painting, and organizing the garage for about a week.

Yeah, in 90 plus temperature and 60-70% humidity.

Hey, I never claimed to be smart.

So I work til I’m completely wet and then come inside for a drink and update on FNC. In the garage I have Beck, Limbaugh and Hanity

on the radio

As I cool I can do some surfing the web. I’ve been hanging out at Talk Left for years and years. TL is focused on legal/crime issues and is more balanced than KOS or MoveOn but it does have its share of kooks and loons.

What runs some on the Left crazy is that I fancy myself a social liberal. I believe in minority rights, gay rights (including marriage), a woman’s right to chose and think we need to rationalize our illegal drug policy.

On the other hand I am more or less opposed to “programs” dedicated to minorities, believing that we have moved past that point and need a color blind “helping hand” based on need and scholastic achievement.

And while I believe in “gay rights” that doesn’t mean that I think we need “hate laws.” If someone harms a gay or a straight person the deed speaks for itself. The reason why is of no consequence. And I will tell gays that the Bible says their actions are wrong, just as it says you shouldn’t be humping your neighbor’s wife but I will let them work out the details with God. He’s been known to forgive and forget.

And I oppose abortion but I won’t tell a woman what she must do with her body. I will also say that we need more church sponsored adoption centers and less Hell and Damnation from the pulpit.

The drug thing is a tough one. Some drugs are addictive and damaging to people and society. Problem is the demand drives the supply and the obscene profits keep an endless supply of drugs and dealers. My solution is simple. Flood the market with free drugs obtained by signing up at your local pharmacy.

That’s it.

Just give you all you want until you decide to quit or kill yourself.

That’s how addiction works. You have to do the job yourself.

In the meantime if I caught anyone selling illegal drugs to anyone the penalty would be 5 years first offense. Death for the second.

That should cut down on the new addicts, although I would guess a few would develop.

I would legalize marijuana and sell it just like we sell liquor. Again getting rid of the drug dealer who would also sell you coke or heroin and making some tax dollars.

The police could concentrate on what few illegal dealers we have left and the assorted other crimes of violence society is prone to.

I also happen to believe in a strong defense and limited government spending. There is no doubt in my mind that we have allowed a nest of vipers to develop in a government-education-financial complex that is intent on turning our constitutional republic into a socialist democracy ran by and for the “elites.”

It’s these later positions that drive the Lefties insane. In their world you must not only be for equal rights you must also be for atoning for the sins of our fathers. Sorry. I owned no slaves and whatever good white society, as a whole, got from slavery was paid for in blood and treasure during the most unCivil war.

See? All of that written in about four hours and five breaks and six glasses of ice tea. Hold the sugar and the lemon.

Bits and pieces

I haven’t had much to write lately. Been too busy doing other things. Sad to say, life will interfere with blogging if you’re not careful.

The garden is, like me, in decline. The tomatoes are mostly gone but the cucumbers continue to produce. I do love sliced cukes, tomatoes, onions and bell peppers. This year I added banana peppers and they are delicious served fresh. We shall have plenty of pickle to spice up the dreary meals of the winter.

The okra is producing and producing and producing. I shall have plenty to prepare for cooking and then freezing for later. I call it candy and although there is no evidence of Cajun in my ancestors I must have been born under the “Coon Ass Star.”

Poker Player too has been busy working on various projects. After ridding the White House of rats, visiting Arizona to play and raising skinks and chickens he too took some time off but now says he has solved the man made global warming non-crisis.

A young cat has adopted us. I have no idea where it came from, it just showed up thin as a piece of paper and as shy as can be. Blue, our 11 year old Persian, regards him with great disdains and ignores him at all times. I doubt that Blue could catch the youngster and that’s a good thing for both of them.

I am feeding it outside in an attempt to become friends. So far the results are not encouraging. My guess is that it was one of a litter born under a house or in a garage and was given to some child by another child and was then “taken off” by the adult in the recipients life. How cruel and cowardly that person was.

So I feed it. Sooner or later I will catch it and off to the Vet for shots and neutering/spaying we will go. Hopefully it will agree to living inside. But if not, that’s fine too.

I see that the judge has pretty well gutted AZ1070. Oh well, what would you expect from a Clinton appointee? I wonder if John Kyle would like to withdraw his glowing praise of this Leftie.

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.

Kerry is especially depreciable. He inherited much and then married the rest. He has never had a job outside of government and lied about his Vietnam service.
