I love baber shops

I got a haircut yesterday, actually all of them. And as a bonus, I had the opportunist to view up close where the mindset of the American citizen is.

Most of it was on the price of gas, and I sensed a victory for neither, but rather a vast disgust at the politicians' lack of action, and both sides are in deep dodo. And Hillary, as FOS as usual, may have hit the right button when she made her aggressive anti-OPEC comments... But that was covered earlier.

Somehow the subject swung to crime, and then to dope. And the really unusual thing I found was the group, no youngsters in it, all more or less had also had it over the so-called war on drugs.

Now my position on drugs hasn't changed. Some drugs, such as speed and Ecstasy and the date rape drug should be illegal and stamped out. But beyond that, and I may have missed some of the no-nos, I think we are wasting our time over them. They are all bad and I use no drugs except for a glass of wine or other alcohol base drink, but people have been using them for years, and will continue. And as long as people do, criminals will serve the market and seek to expand that market by pushing dope to our children and to kill each other over turf and profits.

So what to do? I say make'em legal. Sell'em at liquor stores and use the tax revenue for education and treatment. And that would include nicotine based products which are killing hundreds of thousands each year through the big C and big E, not to mention heart attacks and strokes caused by nicotine.

And just as ignoring the environmental wackos will require great political courage to start drilling for oil, this will require great political courage to ignore the religious Right and reform the laws.

Will it ever happen? Only after we finally realize that the current cost does not justify the current results.

Ford goes to prison

It is amazing how Demos lose their party affiliation when being sent to prision.

Former state Sen. John Ford of Memphis entered a federal prison today in Louisiana to begin serving a five-year sentence for taking $55,000 in bribes as a state lawmaker.

Oil tops $120 a barrel

The mix of factors that drove oil to its latest record were a microcosm of the forces that have nearly doubled oil prices from their levels of about $62 a barrel one year ago. The dollar weakened against the euro on Monday, attracting investors to commodities, such as oil, which they see as a hedge against inflation. Also, a falling dollar makes oil less expensive to investors overseas. A series of Federal Reserve rate cuts starting last year weakened the dollar considerably against foreign currencies; analysts blame the dollar's protracted decline for oil's sharp rise this spring.

Commodity markets exist to provide orderly market pricing, allowing business people to set future prices based on projected needs and quantities. For example, if a sharp freeze reduces the orange crop the farmer can expect to be paid a higher unit price for his product, thus helping him withstand a loss of volume. Without that banks and other finical institutions would be reluctant to loan money to produce future crops and our food supplies would be at risk.

They were not invented to allow speculators to use them as a means to hedge their currency bets. But that is exactly what is happening in oil.

I called both of my Senators and Congressman this morning noting that if they couldn't do something then I couldn't see me voting for them. Period. Right now Bush has, finally, started pushing, yet the Congressional Demos and the Repubs do nothing.

Uh Michelle... We know who he is, and thanks for the help in showing us what he is.
And that, according to you, is a hot head who has been given everything he has ever asked for from the white community, and now that some are starting to ask questions he, and you, are upset.

First he could not stand up to Bret Hume, then he couldn't condemn Reverend Wrong, er Wright until the Rev couldn't take a hint and kept talking and now we have all these questions about his foreign policy, or lack of foreign policy.... and he's angry?

What he is doing is starting to exhibit all of the classic symptoms of a narcissist. Vain with a hugely over inflated ego he has never been allowed to fail. Because of this he doesn't understand that sometimes you lose and that sharp questioning is often the case in life, and people you want to vote for you may not buy into the "God" thing that elitists exhibit so well.
